Then Jerico
Then Jerico are an English rock band. They scored four top 40 hits in the UK during the 1980s. Career The band's early line-up included singer Mark Shaw, bassist Jasper Stainthorpe, drummer Steve Wren, and guitarist Scott Taylor. The band played at The Limelight Club in New York in 1983 and signed to London Records in 1984. The single "The Big Sweep" was recorded for London but they objected to the lyrical subject matter (an anti-Robert Maxwell/Rupert Murdoch statement). It was initially released by the track's producer Martin Rushent on his own Immaculate label in 1985 and later as a limited edition by London Records along with the new song, "Fault". The band's songs "Muscle Deep" and " The Motive" charted in 1987. They enjoyed success with two albums, '' First (The Sound of Music)'' (1987) co-produced by Mark Shaw and Owen Davies, which reached number 35 in the UK Albums Chart, followed by ''The Big Area'' in 1989 that went gold and reached number 4 in the UK Albums Chart. ''Slipstream'' is a 1989 science fiction film directed by Steven Lisberger, who had previously directed the cult classic 1982 science fiction film ''Tron''. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. Gary Michael Langan (born 19 April 1956) is an English engineer, record producer, mixer and musician. Biography His career started at age 18 when he worked as an assistant engineer at Sarm East Studios, learning the craft from Gary Lyons and Mike Stone, whom he assisted on the Queen albums '' A Night at the Opera'', '' A Day at the Races'', and ''News of the World''. After engineering for John Sinclair (co-founder of ''Sarm'' (East), together with sister Jill Sinclair, G. Lyons and M. Stone) on his band Levinsky/Sinclair's 1979 single "Only Feel This Way" and for Trevor Horn on '' 90125'' by Yes, Langan would produce '' Beauty Stab'' by ABC and, later, ''Through the Barricades'' by Spandau Ballet. Mark Shaw (born Mark Robert Tiplady on 10 June 1961 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England) is an English singer and songwriter who formed the 1980s rock band Then Jerico, which he continues to front. Their last studio album was 1998's ''Orgasmaphobia''. Music career After the original Then Jerico line-up split in early 1990, Shaw went solo releasing his only studio album, ''Almost'' for EMI in 1991. A live album, ''Alive & Exposed'', recorded in the summer of 1992 at The Grand Theatre, Clapham, London was released by Murder Records in 2000 under the 'Mark Shaw Etc., Then Jerico' banner featuring new song "Step into the Light". On 12 December 2012, via the official Then Jerico website, Shaw announced details of a 2013 "Reprise" tour consisting of 13 dates around the United Kingdom, culminating in a show at the Clapham Grand in London.
