Big Apple Anime Fest
The Big Apple Anime Fest (BAAF) was an anime convention which was held annually between 2001 and 2003 and supported by a consortium of anime and manga companies. History Event history Cancellations Despite confirmed dates for 2004, Big Apple Anime Fest announced on its web site that it would skip its event in 2004 due to the Republican National Convention, which was to be held in New York City over Labor Day weekend. The following year, John O'Donnell of Central Park Media, one of the companies supporting Big Apple Anime Fest, informed AnimeCons.com that he was, "unaware of any plans for BAAF 2005 at this time." The convention has not been held since and it is uncertain if there are any plans to revive it. Attendance counting Big Apple Anime Fest's metric for counting attendance differed from those typically used by other anime conventions, counting person-days (" turnstile attendance") rather than memberships sold. Masao Maruyama (film Producer)
is a Japanese anime producer and anime entrepreneur, the co-founder of Madhouse (company), Madhouse, as well as the founder of MAPPA (studio), MAPPA and Studio M2. He is the current chairman of MAPPA and president of Studio M2. Maruyama has been involved in the Japanese animation business for more than 50 years. He has worked with many well-known and up-and-coming animators, established several animation production companies, worked on dozens of series and films and planned and produced various works. Maruyama is one of the most experienced producers in the Japanese animation industry, and has given opportunities to individuals who went on to become accomplished directors in their own right. Satoshi Kon
was a Japanese film director, animator, screenwriter and manga artist from Sapporo, Hokkaido and a member of the Japanese Animation Creators Association (JAniCA). He was a graduate of the Graphic Design department of the Musashino Art University. He is best known for his acclaimed anime films ''Perfect Blue'' (1997), ''Millennium Actress'' (2001), ''Tokyo Godfathers'' (2003) and ''Paprika'' (2006). Tsukasa Hojo
is a Japanese manga artist. He studied technical design while still at Kyushu Sangyo University, where he began to draw manga. He worked on several one-shot stories before releasing his serialized works: '' Cat's Eye'', ''City Hunter'' and ''Angel Heart''. After the success of '' Cat's Eye'' and ''City Hunter'', Hojo went on to work on other series such as ''Family Compo''. His current ongoing series is ''Angel Heart'', a spin–off of ''City Hunter'' set in an alternate universe. Keith Ian Giffen (born November 30, 1952) is an American comics artist and writer. He is known for his work for DC Comics on their ''Legion of Super-Heroes'' and ''Justice League'' titles as well as for being the co-creator of Lobo. James Carter Cathcart (born March 8, 1954) is an American voice actor, script adaptor, voice director, pianist and vocalist known for providing the English voice for James, Meowth and Professor Oak in the ''Pokémon'' franchise since 2005. Career Cathcart has been playing with bands since high school, including The Laughing Dogs who released two albums on Columbia in 1979-80 and has been the vocalist of the Carter Cathcart Band since 1981. Yoshiyuki Tomino
is a Japanese mecha anime creator, animator, director, screenwriter, songwriter and novelist best known for creating the ''Gundam'' anime franchise.
