Bicaz (river)
The Bicaz ( hu, Békás-patak) is a right tributary of the river Bistrița in Romania. Its source is in the Hășmaș Mountains. Its uppermost course, upstream from Red Lake (Lacul Roșu), is also called ''Vereșchiu''. Other tributaries of Lacul Roșu are Pârâul Oii (Oaia), Licoș and Suhard. It discharges into the Bistrița in the town Bicaz. The Romanian name derives from the Hungarian name, which means literally frog-rivulet (hun.: béka = frog). Its length is and its basin size is . Red Lake is a natural dam lake in Harghita County, Romania. It is located in the Hășmaș Mountains, on the upper course of the Bicaz (river), Bicaz River, and lies at the foot of the , near the Bicaz Gorge, at a distance of from Gheorgheni and from Bicaz. Bicaz
Bicaz ( hu, Békás) is a town in Neamț County, Western Moldavia, Romania situated in the eastern Carpathian Mountains near the confluence of the Bicaz and Bistrița Rivers and near Lake Bicaz, an artificial lake formed by the Bicaz Dam on the Bistrița. Bicaz used to be a border town until 1918. Six villages are administered by the town: Capșa, Dodeni, Izvoru Alb, Izvoru Muntelui, Potoci and Secu. Economy Before the construction of the dam (1950–1960) the settlement was just a mountain village in Eastern Carpathians where the main economic activity was timber harvesting.
