Bible Dictionary (LDS Church)
''Bible Dictionary'' is an official publication of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Since 1979, ''Bible Dictionary'' has been published as an appendix to most copies of the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible printed by the LDS Church. The dictionary contains 1285 entries on 196 pages. The publication states that it was "designed to provide teachers and students with a concise collection of definitions and explanations of items that are mentioned in or are otherwise associated with the Bible." The LDS ''Bible Dictionary'' was created in the 1970s by the Scriptures Publications Committee of the LDS Church.. This committee was chaired by Thomas S. Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church)—widely known as Mormon missionaries—are volunteer representatives of the church who engage variously in proselytizing, church service, humanitarian aid, and community service. Joseph Smith Translation Of The Bible
The Joseph Smith Translation (JST), also called the Inspired Version of the Holy Scriptures (IV), is a revision of the Bible by Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, who said that the JST/IV was intended to restore what he described as "many important points touching the salvation of men, hathad been taken from the Bible, or lost before it was compiled". Smith died before he deemed it complete, though most of his work on it was performed about a decade beforehand. The work is the King James Version of the Bible (KJV) with some significant additions and revisions. William James Mortimer
William James Mortimer (died May 20, 2010), sometimes known as Jim Mortimer, was the publisher, president and editor of the ''Deseret News'' from 1985 to 1996 and publisher of the newspaper from 1996 to 2000. Biography Mortimer graduated from Logan High School, received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University and journalism degree from Columbia University. After serving as a U.S. Army second lieutenant during the Korean War, he returned to Utah and married Paula Ann Deline. Mortimer's first involvement with the ''Deseret News'' began at age 12 when he started as a carrier delivering the paper. He also worked part-time in the Logan bureau of the ''Deseret News'' during college.
