Biała Dama (vodka)
Biała Dama is an unflavored vodka produced by Polmos Łańcut. According to its producer it has delicate, unobtrusive aromatic note of neutral grain spirits. It contains 40% alcohol by volume. The vodka has a tradition of more than 200 years. ''Biała Dama'' (Polish language, pl: ''White Lady'') refers to a ghost of Julia Lubomirska (1764-1794), Julia Potocka, whose mother established the distillery in Łańcut. Vodka ( pl, wódka , russian: водка , sv, vodka ) is a clear distilled alcoholic beverage. Different varieties originated in Poland, Russia, and Sweden. Vodka is composed mainly of water and ethanol but sometimes with traces of impurities and flavourings. Traditionally, it is made by distilling liquid from fermented cereal grains, and potatoes since introduced in Europe in the 1700's. Some modern brands use fruits, honey, or maple sap as the base. Polmos Łańcut
The Polmos Łańcut distillery is one of the oldest producers of liquors and liqueurs in Poland. A small amount of the distillery's output is exported to Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and the United States. History The distillery in Łańcut was founded by Duchess Lubomirska on the vast estate of the Lubomirski family. An original document attesting to the distillery's existence in 1784 can be found in its museum. Primarily the Łańcut estate produced regular, anise flavoured and sweetened vodkas. Count Alfred Wojciech Potocki, a grandson and heir of the Duchess, started to run the Łańcut and Lwów Lubomirski estates in 1823. He modernised the management of these properties, and implemented the Schwartz distillation equipment. Łańcut (, approximately "wine-suit"; yi, לאַנצוט, Lantzut; uk, Ла́ньцут, Lánʹtsut; german: Landshut) is a town in south-eastern Poland, with 18,004 inhabitants, as of 2 June 2009. Situated in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship (since 1999), it is the capital of Łańcut County. History Archeological investigations carried out in the region of Łańcut confirm the existence of human settlements from about 4000 years B.C. The first owner of the town was Otton (''z Pilczy'') Pilecki, who was given the Łańcut estate by the Polish king, Casimir III the Great, in 1349, as a reward for his service. Julia Lubomirska (1764-1794)
Princess Julia Lubomirska (1764 – 22 August 1794) was a Polish noblewoman, known for her love life. She was the daughter of Izabela Lubomirska, one of the richest people in the Commonwealth and cousin of the king Stanislaus Augustus, and the Grand Marshal of the Crown Stanisław Lubomirski. She was considered one of the most beautiful Polish women of her time, for which she was called "Guiliatta la bella". In 1785 in Wilanów, she married Jan Nepomucen Potocki, travel writer best known for his novel '' The Manuscript Found in Saragossa'' and for being the first person in Poland to fly on a hot-air balloon. Soon after the wedding they went together to Italy, France, Britain, and the Netherlands for three years. During this time, she gave birth to Alfred and Artur while staying with her mother.
