Biathlon At The 1988 Winter Olympics
Biathlon at the 1988 Winter Olympics consisted of three biathlon events. They were held at the Canmore Nordic Centre, about 100 kilometres from the host city of Calgary. The events began on 20 February and ended on 26 February 1988. Medal summary Four nations won medals in biathlon, East Germany leading the medal table with two gold medals, and the Soviet Union winning the most medals with 4 (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze). Frank-Peter Roetsch won both individual gold medals, while Valeriy Medvedtsev won three medals, two silvers in the individual events and gold in the relay. Canmore Nordic Centre
Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park is a provincial park in Alberta, Canada, located immediately west of Canmore, west of Calgary. This provincial park is situated at the foot of Mount Rundle within the Canadian Rocky Mountains along Bow Valley and the Trans-Canada Highway, at an elevation of , and has a surface of . It is part of Kananaskis Country's park system. 1988 Olympics The Canmore Nordic Centre was originally constructed for the 1988 Winter Olympics. Ernst Reiter (born 31 October 1962 in Ruhpolding) is a former German biathlete who represented West Germany. At the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, Reiter won a bronze medal with the West German relay team consisting of Peter Angerer, Walter Pichler and Fritz Fischer. And at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. Andreas Zingerle
Andreas Zingerle (; born 25 November 1961) is an Italian former biathlete. At the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, Zingerle won a bronze medal in the relay. At the World Championships Zingerle accumulated one individual gold medal and three golds and a bronze in relay and team events. He has later become the head coach of Italian National Team. Under his tenure the Italians collected several medals at the Olympic Winter Games and World Championships, including Gold Medals by Dominik Windisch and Dorothea Wierer at the Biathlon World Championships 2019. Gottlieb Taschler (born 21 August 1961) is a former Italian biathlete. He competed at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics. Currently he is a Vice-President of the International Biathlon Union. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, he finished 5th in the 4 × 7.5 km relay with the Italian team. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, he won a bronze medal in the relay, and finished 11th in the 20 km individual. Fritz Fischer (biathlete)
Friedrich "Fritz" Fischer (born 22 September 1956) is a former biathlete from Germany. He won a gold medal with Germany in the 4 × 7.5 km relay in the 1992 Winter Olympics. After ending his competitive career Fischer served as a coach for the German biathlon team for many years before retiring in 2014. Peter Angerer
Peter Angerer (born 14 July 1959) is a former West German biathlete. Career At the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo he won the gold medal in the 20 km individual. In addition he won silver in the 10 km sprint and bronze with the West German relay team. Previously at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid he won a relay bronze medal and at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary the relay team won silver. In addition to winning five World Championship medals and 24 individual World Cup races, Angerer won the overall World Cup in 1983. Angerer won twice at the Holmenkollen ski festival biathlon competition with wins in the 20 km individual in 1984 and 1985. At the 1986 World Championships, Angerer finished second in the individual and came third with the relay team.
