Biathlon At The 2014 Winter Olympics
Biathlon at the 2014 Winter Olympics was held at the Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex near Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. The eleven events took place between 8–22 February 2014. For the first time ever, a mixed relay event was staged after being voted onto the Olympic program in 2011. Competition schedule The following is the competition schedule for all eleven events. All times are (UTC+4). Medal summary Notably absent from the medals for biathlon in the 2014 Games were the German women who had won six medals in 2006 and five in 2010. The men's team meanwhile recovered from a poor Games in Vancouver to achieve two silver medals. France's women, who had won three medals in 2010, also missed the podium, as did Canada, despite some promising performances. The Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex (russian: Лыжно-биатлонный комплекс «Лаура») is a skiing venue located on the crests and slopes of Psekhako Ridge in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. For the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Paralympics, Paralympics in neighboring Sochi, it hosted the biathlon and the cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing portion of the Nordic combined events. The mixed relay competition of the Sochi 2014 Olympics was held at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex on 19 February 2014. Results The race was started at 18:30. On 27 November 2017, IOC disqualified Olga Vilukhina for doping violations. Emil Hegle Svendsen
Emil Hegle Svendsen (born 12 July 1985) is a retired Norwegian biathlete. He has won eight medals at Winter Olympics (four gold) and five individual gold medals and seven relay gold medals at World Championships. He skis with Trondhjems Skiskyttere, based in Trondheim. Career The 2005–06 season was Svendsen's first season on the World Cup tour, before then he competed as a junior in the European Cup, now known as the IBU cup. During his first season in the World Cup Svendsen finished fifth in three races, two of them in sprints (Brezno-Osrblie and Ruhpolding), and the other in a mass start (Holmenkollen). He also finished races in seventh, ninth, and four more within the top twenty (14th, 15th, 17th, 19th). He finished the overall season in 22nd place. Dominik Landertinger (; born 13 March 1988) is a retired Austrian biathlete. Life and career Landertinger debuted in the 2007–08 season, and his big breakthrough came during the 2008–09 season, where he, as of 22 March 2015, has fourteen podium finishes, including a gold medal in the 15 km mass start at the 2009 World Championships in Pyeongchang and a win in the 15 km mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk at the last round of the 2009–10 season. Erik Lesser (born 17 May 1988) is a German former biathlete. In 2010, he ran his first single World Cup Race. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a silver medal at Men's individual. At the Biathlon World Championships 2013 he won a bronze medal with the German team in Men's relay. His grandfather Axel Lesser competed in cross-country skiing for East Germany at the 1976 Winter Olympics. Evgeny Romanovich Ustyugov (russian: Евгений Романович Устюгов; born 4 June 1985) is a Russian former biathlete. Born to cross-country skiers, Ustyugov was introduced to biathlon at the age of three. Olga Alekseyevna Zaitseva (russian: Ольга Алексеевна Зайцева; born 16 May 1978) is a former Russian biathlete. She began her career in 1994. After not competing in the 2014–15 season, Zaitseva announced her retirement on 24 January 2015.
