Bianca Xunise
Bianca Xunise is an American cartoonist, illustrator, and self-described "goth of color". Her work is nationally syndicated through the ''Six Chix'' comic strip collaborative. Early life Xunise was born in Chicago to artistic parents; her mother was a fashion designer. Her family has Creole roots. She started as a fashion blogger, but quit "because they didn’t want to indict George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case and after that I realized I idn’tcare what I’m wearing anymore." Career Xunise's influences include Finnish artist Tove Jansson, Austrian children's book illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans, and Japanese manga artist Naoko Takeuchi. She credits her professional start in comics to online community for women Hello Giggles, which gave her a column in 2015. Xunise had been featured in the Nib and Shondaland when King Features Syndicate asked her to create a Popeye tribute strip. Naoko Takeuchi
is a Japanese manga artist. She is best known as the author of ''Sailor Moon'', one of the most popular manga series of all time. She has won several awards, including the 1993 Kodansha Manga Award for ''Sailor Moon''. Takeuchi is married to Yoshihiro Togashi, the author of ''YuYu Hakusho'' and ''Hunter × Hunter''. Early life Takeuchi was born in Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan, to parents Kenji and Ikuko Takeuchi. She has a younger brother, Shingo. She gave the names of her relatives to the characters she created for ''Sailor Moon'', and mentions this in interviews and in several comic strips she produced, in place of author notes. Takeuchi attended Kofu Ichi High School. She wore a seifuku and joined the astronomy and manga clubs. Barbara Brandon-Croft
Barbara Brandon-Croft (born November 27, 1958) is an American cartoonist, best known for creating the comic strip ''Where I'm Coming From'', and for being the first nationally syndicated African-American female cartoonist. Early life Brandon-Croft was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Brumsic Brandon Jr. Her father was also a cartoonist and he was the creator of the comic strip ''Luther'' which was in circulation from 1970 to 1986 under the Los Angeles Times Syndicate newspapers. She and her father are said to represent the only occurrence of father-daughter newspaper cartoonists. She attended the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. In 1982, she developed a cartoon feature for ''Elan'', a magazine for black women. She later joined the staff of ''Essence'' magazine as their fashion and beauty writer.
