Bianca Buitendag
Bianca Buitendag is a South African professional surfer. She has represented South Africa at the 2020 Summer Olympics where she won silver in the women's shortboard competition. Life Buitendag was born in George, Western Cape, South Africa on 9 November 1993. She grew up near the beach of False Bay outside of Cape Town. With her father's encouragement she learned to surf at the age of eight with her two brothers. When she was twelve her family moved to the Southern Cape region of South Africa. Bianca only spoke Afrikaans when she first went to school, so her parents decided to put her in an English school. In 2015 her father, Collin Buitendag, died. She was still able to finish at her career-best at World No. 4. The following year she was ranked No 12 in the world. Victoria Bay
Victoria Bay is a small cove in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is situated on the Garden Route between George, Western Cape, George and Wilderness, Western Cape, Wilderness. It is a popular beach for surfers, consisting of a right hand reef-like wave which rolls over small boulder-like rocks for about 200m. District and National surf competitions are often held at Vic Bay and despite its small size, Vic Bay is a well-known and much-visited spot. The western side of the bay culminates in large boulders believed to have rolled down from the top of the hill. This area is known as Land's End, the name given to the original bungalow at the end of the then-dirt road. The Land's End bungalow is now a large self-catering and B&B property, as are most of the thirteen properties along the road. Surfing is a surface water sport in which an individual, a surfer (or two in tandem surfing), uses a board to ride on the forward section, or face, of a moving wave of water, which usually carries the surfer towards the shore.
