Bhutan At The 2018 Asian Para Games
Bhutan made their Asian Para Games debut in the 2018 edition of the games which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 6 to 13 October 2018. The country's National Paralympic Committee, the Bhutan Paralympic Committee, has been recently established at the time of the games, having been founded in 2017. Bhutan was represented by two athletes; Pema Rigsel who competed in archery and Kinley Dem who participated in the shooting competition. Princess ''Ashi (title), Ashi'' Euphelma Choden Wangchuck, the President of the Bhutan Paralympic Committee (BPC) was the delegation's chief. Archery Pema Rigsel competed in the 70 metres wheelchair recurve archery event. Shooting Kinley Dem participated in the 10 metres wheelchair rifle shooting event. Bhutan Paralympic Committee
The Bhutan Paralympic Committee (), also known as NPC Bhutan, is the national sports body for disabled athletes in Bhutan. Established in 2017, NPC Bhutan is among the youngest National Paralympic Committees in the world and is a member of the Asian Paralympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee. History Efforts to establish a national Paralympic Committee were made as early as 2016, in a bid to make the participation of Bhutanese athletes in the 2020 Summer Paralympics possible. On 17 September 2016, the Bhutan Olympic Committee and Japanese firm, SEISA Group signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation to help qualify athletes in the 2020 games and establish a Paralympic committee. 2018 Asian Para Games
The 2018 Asian Para Games ( id, Pesta Olahraga Difabel Asia 2018, ''Asian Para Games 2018''), officially known as the 3rd Asian Para Games and also known as Indonesia 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event that held from 6 to 13 October 2018 in Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta. The event paralleled the 2018 Asian Games and was held for Asian athletes with disability. It was the first time Indonesia hosted the games. Events were held in the host city Jakarta and in Bogor Regency of West Java province. The opening ceremony was held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, while the closing ceremony was held at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium next door. The games saw the debut of Bhutan as a participating nation and the introduction of chess to the Asian Para Games' program, with the removal of rowing, sailing, 5 and 7-a-side football, wheelchair dancesport and wheelchair rugby. Bhutan (; dz, འབྲུག་ཡུལ་, Druk Yul ), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan,), is a landlocked country in South Asia. A National Paralympic Committee (NPC) is a national constituent of the worldwide Paralympic movement. Subject to the controls of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), NPCs are responsible for organizing their people's participation in the Paralympic Games. The Paralympic Games are a major international multi-sport event where athletes with physical disabilities compete; this includes athletes with mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. Ashi (title)
Ashi ( Dzongkha: ཨ་ཞེ་; Wylie: ''A-zhe'') also spelled Ashe or Azhi, is a Bhutanese honorary title literally meaning "Lady". The title is prefixed to the given name, and is borne by female Bhutanese nobility and by female members of the Bhutanese royal family. The masculine form is Dasho ( Dzongkha: དྲག་ཤོས་; Wylie: ''drag-shos''; "superior, best"), meaning "Lord", which is held by all Members of Parliament; a number of senior officials, including deputy ministers and district magistrates; senior civil servants and others as a form of Royal award (very much like a British Baronetcy), and by courtesy prominent landowners. Ashi can also mean "Miss" although that is not the intended use of the term. Euphelma Choden Wangchuck
Princess ''Ashi'' Euphelma Choden Wangchuck (born 6 June 1993) is a princess of Bhutan. She is the daughter of the fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck and his wife, Queen Mother ''Ashi'' Sangay Choden Wangchuck. She is half-sister of the fifth King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Biography Princess Euphelma Choden Wangchuck is the youngest daughter of the fourth King of Bhutan, currently King-Father of Bhutan. She has been educated in the exclusive Swiss boarding school, Institut Le Rosey, in Rolle (promotion of 2011). Bhutan At The 2018 Asian Games
Bhutan participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Bhutan first competed at the Asian Games in 1986 Seoul. At the last edition of 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, a total of 16 Bhutanese athletes took part in seven different sports. This time, 24 Bhutanese athletes will compete in four different sports including archery, boxing, taekwondo and golf. Archer Karma was the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
