Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar
Sir Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar OBE, FNI, FASc, FRS, FRIC, FInstP (21 February 1894 – 1 January 1955) was an Indian colloid chemist, academic and scientific administrator. The first director-general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), he is revered as the "father of research laboratories" in India. He was also the first Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). In 1958, to honour his name and legacy, the Indian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) instituted the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for scientists who have made significant contributions in various branches of science. Mahendra Bhatnagar ( hi, महेंद्र भटनागर; 26 June 1926 – 27 April 2020) was an Indian Hindi and English poet. He was one of the significant post-independence voices in his field of poetry, expressing the lyricism and pathos, as well as aspirations and yearnings of the modern Indian intellect. Early life and education Mahendra Bhatnagar was born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh at his maternal grandfather's residence on 26 June 1926. He received primary education in Jhansi, Morar, Gwalior, and Sabalgarh, Morena. He then graduated high school in Gwalior and intermediate at Madhav College in 1941 and 1943 respectively. He finally received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Victoria College in 1945. After graduating, he pursued his Master's Degree and Doctorate at the Nagpur University in 1948 and 1957 respectively. Arun Bhatnagar ( hi, अरुण भटनागर; born 10 June 1944) is a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1966 batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre who has served in various capacities in the State and with the Government of India. Bhatnagar retired from the IAS in June, 2004 as Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training and worked, thereafter, as Secretary, National Advisory Council (2004-08) and Chairman, Prasar Bharati (2008–09) at New Delhi. Shivani Bhatnagar (died 23 January 1999) was an Indian journalist who worked for the ''Indian Express'' newspaper. Biography Bhatnagar's murder on 23 January 1999 became a scandal that reached into the top levels of Indian politics. Indian Police Service officer Ravi Kant Sharma was charged with the murder by the Delhi Police, who investigated the case. Sharma surrendered to the police on 27 September 2002, after having been in hiding since the arrest warrant was issued on 3 August of that year. Sharma allegedly killed Bhatnagar because he feared she would expose their "intimate" relations. IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma along with Sri Bhagwan Sharma, Satya Prakash and Pradeep Sharma were accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case and they were convicted by a Delhi Trial Court on 18 March 2008.
