Bhashaposhini
''Bhashaposhini'' is an Indian monthly magazine. It is one of the oldest Malayalam literary review magazines. History and profile ''Bhashaposhini'' was first published in 1892 as a literary journal of the Bhashaposhini Sabha. The founding editor was Kandathil Varghese Mappillai. In 1895, it merged with another magazine '' Vidyavinodini''. However, after three years, in 1897, resumed as an independent journal again. It continued to be an important and authentic periodical until 1942. After a long break, in 1977 June, the magazine was revived by the Malayala Manorama group of publications. It is one of the significant Malayalam periodical that is published monthly. Kandathil Varghese Mappillai
Kandathil Varghese Mappillai (1857 6 July 1904) was an Indian journalist, translator and publisher who was the founder of the newspaper Malayala Manorama and the magazine ''Bhashaposhini''. Early life Varghese Mappillai was born in 1857 as the fourth son of Karuthalil Eapen Mappillai. He studied up to F.A. with the financial support of his father. After completing his studies, Mappillai began working as a treasury officer (Muthalpadikkaran). Later on he took up the job of a ‘munshi’ (Malayalam teacher) in a CMS School for a short period. He was the editor of ‘Kerala Mithram’ which was published in 1881 from Cochin. His journalistic mind and love for literature paved way for establishing the Malayala Manorama Company in 1888. ''Malayala Manorama'' is a morning newspaper in Malayalam published from Kottayam, Kerala, India by the Malayala Manorama Company Limited. Currently headed by Mammen Mathew; it was first published as a weekly on 22 March 1888, and currently has a readership of over 20 million (with a circulation base of over 2.4 million copies). Moorkoth Kumaran
Moorkoth Kumaran (1874–1941) was a social reformer, a teacher and a short story writer in Malayalam. Kumaran came from a Thiyya family of Thalassery, Kannur. He was a disciple of Narayana Guru and wrote the first biography of Guru. He initiated the installation of the first statue of Narayana Guru in Kerala when he was alive. Biography Murkothu Kumaran was born on May 23, 1874 into the Murkothu family of North Malabar. His father was Murkoth Ramunni, and his mother was Parappurathu Kunchirutha. His mother died when he was aged six and his father when he was eight. Kumaran grew up in his father's family. Education in Thalassery and Madras. He started his own magazine, Moderate. He is best known as a short story writer and critic. He has worked as a teacher in various schools and colleges. Died June 25, 1941. ''Vidyavinodini'' or ''Vidya Vinodini'' (Malayalam: വിദ്യാവിനോദിനി) was a Malayalam-language monthly literary magazine published from Trichur in the Kingdom of Cochin (now part of India). It started publication in November 1889 and ceased publication in March 1902. History Vidyavinodini Press was established in 1886 (Malayalam Era 1062). It was run by V. Sundarayyar and his son Viswanathayyar, the owners of V. Sundarayyar & Sons. They started the magazine in 1889 with C. P. Achutha Menon as the editor and Viswanathayyar as the manager. Initially, the magazine was printed in Kalpadrumam Press, Trichur, and later from 1900, in Vidyavinodini Press. The first issue of ''Vidyavinodini'' was published in November 1889. Ulloor is a city locality in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It was the home of the modern Malayalam triumvirate poet Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer.
