Krishnasaamy Bhagyaraj (born 7 January 1953) is an Indian director, actor, screenwriter, music director, producer and politician active mainly in Tamil films. He has also written and directed Hindi and Telugu films and TV serials. As an actor, he has worked in more than 75 films and has directed more than 25 films. He won a Filmfare Best Actor Award for ''Mundhanai Mudichu'' (1983). He received Lifetime Achievement Award in SIIMA (2014). He is the editor of weekly magazine ''Bhagya'' and has also written several novels. Personal life Bhagyaraj was born in Vellankoil near Gobichettipalayam in Erode district in Tamil Nadu. His parents were Krishnaswamy and Amaravathiamma. He married twice. His first marriage was with actress Praveena, in 1981. She died due to an aggravated case of jaundice in August 1983. Mundhanai Mudichu
''Mundhanai Mudichu'' () is a 1983 Indian Tamil language, Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed and written by K. Bhagyaraj and also stars alongside Urvashi (actress), Urvashi (in her major Tamil debut). The film focuses on Parimala, a mischievous girl, who falls in love with a widower who works as a teacher. She marries him by falsely accusing him of having sex with her, but she has to take drastic steps to win his love. Bhagyaraj based the story of ''Mundhanai Mudichu'' on his friend who lost his wife, and a woman who fell in love with him even as others started gossiping about them. Another inspiration was a poster of ''Ramu (1966 film), Ramu'' (1966) which depicted its protagonist as a single father, and Bhagyaraj imagining himself in that position. Shanthanu Bhagyaraj (born 24 August 1986) is an Indian actor who has worked predominantly in Tamil language films. The son of actors K. ''Suvarilladha Chiththirangal'' () is a 1979 Indian Tamil-language drama film, written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj, in his directorial debut. The film stars Sudhakar, Bhagyaraj and Sumathi. It was released on 30 November 1979, and became a box office success. The film was remade in Telugu as ''Pedala Brathukulu'', with Sudhakar and Sumathi reprising their roles. Plot The story revolves around a poor girl living with her widowed mother and siblings. Poverty and the family situation gets her mother to prostitute herself for the welfare of the family. Bhagyaraj treats this subject from the perspective of the girl who sees the wrong of her mother; but later teases the thought of right and wrong with the viewers considering the situation which the mother gets into. ''Sigappu Rojakkal'' () is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language psychological thriller film co-written and directed by Bharathirajaa. The film starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, with Goundamani, Bhagyaraj and Vadivukkarasi in supporting roles. It revolves around Dileep, who is traumatised by women's behaviour in his childhood, and grows up to be a psychopath who kills women after having sex with them. ''Sigappu Rojakkal'' was inspired by serial killer Raman Raghav's crimes, and another serial killer who was based in Bombay but hailed from Tirunelveli. ''16 Vayathinile'' (; read as ''Pathinaaru Vayathinile'') is a 1977 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film co-written and directed by Bharathirajaa in his directorial debut. The film stars Kamal Haasan, Sridevi, and Rajinikanth, with Ganthimathi, Sathyajith and Goundamani in supporting roles.
