Aneurin Bevan
Aneurin "Nye" Bevan PC (; 15 November 1897 – 6 July 1960) was a Welsh Labour Party politician, noted for tenure as Minister of Health in Clement Attlee's government in which he spearheaded the creation of the British National Health Service. He is also known for his wider contribution to the founding of the British welfare state. He was first elected as MP for Ebbw Vale in 1929, and used his Parliamentary platform to make a number of influential criticisms of Winston Churchill and his Conservative government during the Second World War. Before entering Parliament, Bevan was involved in miner's union politics and was a leading figure in the 1926 general strike. Brian Eyrl Bevan (24 January 1924 – 3 June 1991), also known by the nickname of "Wing Wizard", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s who became the only player ever to have been inducted into both the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame and British Rugby League Hall of Fame. Beverley Bevan (born 25 November 1944) is an English rock musician, who was the drummer and one of the original members of The Move and Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). After the end of ELO in 1986, he founded ELO Part II. Bevan also was drummer for Black Sabbath during the Born Again Tour, and later played percussion on ''The Eternal Idol'' album in 1987. Billy Bevan (born William Bevan Harris, 29 September 1887 – 26 November 1957) was an Australian-born vaudevillian, who became an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 American films between 1916 and 1950. Career Bevan was born in the country town of Orange, New South Wales, Australia. He went on the stage at an early age, traveled to Sydney and spent eight years in Australian light opera, performing as Willie Bevan. Bevan Stanley Meredith (14 August 1927 – 17 December 2019) was an Anglican clergyman in Australia and Papua New Guinea who was Bishop of the New Guinea Islands (1977–1995) and Archbishop of Papua New Guinea (1990–1995). Bridget Bevan (née Vaughan; baptised 30 October 1698 – 11 December 1779), also known as Madam Bevan, was a Wales, Welsh educationalist and public benefactor. She was the chief supporter of Griffith Jones (priest), Griffith Jones and his system of circulating schools. Edward Bevan (8 July 1770, London – 31 January 1860, Hereford) was an English physician and apiarist, known for his 1827 treatise on honey bees (and a revised, enlarged edition in 1838). Edward Bevan attended four years of grammar school in Wotton-under-Edge (where he was appointed School Captain, school captain) and then studied at the college school in Hereford. In that town he was apprenticed to a surgeon and then went to London. Edward Vaughan Bevan (3 November 1907 – 22 February 1988) was a British doctor and rower who won a gold medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Biography and career Bevan was born at Chesterton, Cambridgeshire. He was educated at Bedford School where he was in the rugby XV and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he rowed with the First Trinity Boat Club. First Trinity represented Great Britain rowing at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, where, at the age of 20, Bevan won an Olympic gold medal in the coxless four with John Lander, Michael Warriner and Richard Beesly. Alan Bevan is a piper and current pipe major of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. Life Before joining the Simon Fraser University band in 1995, he was pipe major of the Grade 1 Abbotsford Police Pipe Band. Bevan graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1999, and is a practising lawyer. His wife Bonnie also plays in the band. Bevan took over as pipe major of Simon Fraser University when Terry Lee stepped down as pipe major in 2013, after 36 years in the role. Edward John Bevan
Edward John Bevan (11 December 1856 – 17 October 1921) was an English chemist. He became a leader in the affairs of the Society of Public Analysts and editor of The Analyst. Bevan was notable for his caustic wit. He was born in Birkenhead. After graduating, he became a chemist at the Scottish paper making firm of Alexander Cowan & Co. He met Charles Frederick Cross, and the pair then attended Owens College, Manchester. Cross who was interested in cellulose technology went into partnership with Bevan in 1885, setting up as analytical and consulting chemists in New Court, Lincoln's Inn in London. In 1888 they published what was to become a standard work on paper making. William Arnold Bevan, Sr. (March 26, 1913 – August 26, 1975) was an American football player and coach. He played college football at the University of Minnesota and was a consensus selection at the guard position on the 1934 College Football All-America Team. Biography He grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from St. Paul Central High School. He then enrolled at the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team under head coach Bernie Bierman. He played at the guard position on Minnesota teams that were undefeated for two consecutive seasons from 1933 to 1934 and was one of four first-team All-Americans on the 1934 Minnesota team that has been recognized as Minnesota's first national championship team.
