Beuth (locomotive)
BEUTH was a 2-2-2 steam locomotive manufactured by Borsig in 1843 and was the first steam locomotive developed independently in Germany. Borsig had previously built locomotives based on American models. The locomotive won a race against a model by Stephenson by about ten minutes and was considered the prototype of fast German locomotive designs for the next ten years. A driving axle and two running axles as well as a vertical boiler ensured comparatively high speeds. It was named after the head of the Prussian trade academy Christian Peter Wilhelm Beuth, who had prophesied to August Borsig that nothing would ever come of it. A replica of the locomotive is currently on display in the German Museum of Technology in Berlin. Christian Peter Wilhelm Beuth
Christian Peter Wilhelm Friedrich Beuth (28 December 1781 – 27 September 1853) was a Prussian statesman, involved in the Prussian reforms and the main mover in Prussia's industrial renewal. Life and career Beuth was born in Cleves; his father was an artist. He entered the University of Halle in 1798 to study law and cameralism. In 1799 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Halle. He entered the Prussian civil service in 1801, becoming Assessor (law), Assessor in Bayreuth in 1806, followed in 1809 by a position in Potsdam and in 1810 at the head of the taxation section of the finance ministry in Berlin. In 1813/14 he was a member of the Lützow Free Corps and fought in the German campaign (Napoleonic Wars), liberation campaign against Napoleon; he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. Peter Beuth (born 3 December 1967 in Cologne) is a German politician. He is a member of the CDU party. Beuth is an MP in the Landtag, the parliament of Hesse. Since 18 January 2014 he is State Minister of the Interior and for Sports in the government of Minister-President Volker Bouffier of Hesse. Before that he was Secretary General of CDU Hesse since 14 March 2009. Early life and career After high school diploma in 1988 in Taunusstein Beuth worked as an assistant for media planning. He studied law at University of Mainz completing his studies in 1997 with the first state examination, in 2001 with the second state examination. Since October 2003 to 2014 he worked as a lawyer.
