''Between the Lines'' is a 1977 ensemble drama from Midwest Films directed by Joan Micklin Silver and produced by her husband Raphael D. Silver. The film won two out of the three awards it was nominated for at the 27th Berlin International Film Festival. Plot The story revolves around a group of people who work at ''The Back Bay Mainline'', an alternative newspaper in Boston, as it is bought out by a major corporation. Cast Notes Fred Barron, who had written for both ''The Phoenix'' and ''The Real Paper'', used his alternative newspaper experiences as the basis for his ''Between the Lines'' screenplay. The director Silver once had worked for ''The Village Voice''. Doug Kenney, co-founder of the National Lampoon, has a cameo role. The success of the film led to a short-lived TV sitcom, also titled ''Between the Lines''. Orel Leonard Hershiser IV (born September 16, 1958) is an American former baseball pitcher who played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1983 to 2000. He later became a pitching coach for the Texas Rangers from 2002 to 2005 and a broadcast color analyst for the Dodgers. He is also a professional poker player. After playing baseball in high school at Cherry Hill High School East and at Bowling Green State University, Hershiser was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1979. After several years in the minor leagues, he made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 1983. During his tenure with the team, Hershiser was a three-time All-Star, finishing in the top five in Cy Young voting four times in his first six full seasons. Hershiser's most successful season came in 1988, when he set a major league record by pitching 59 consecutive innings without allowing a run. Between the Lines Books (BTL) is an independent Toronto-based publisher of non-fiction, most of which offers a critical perspective on culture, economics, and society. Since its inception in 1977, BTL has published approximately 250 titles of which more than half are maintained in print, including seminal works by American cultural theorists bell hooks and Noam Chomsky. In 2012, BTL won the Wilson Prize for Publishing Canadian History. ''Little Voice'' is the second and major-label debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, which was released on July 3, 2007 on the Epic Records label.
