Betty DeGeneres
Betty Jane DeGeneres (née Pfeffer; born May 20, 1930) is an American LGBT rights activist. She is the mother of Ellen and Vance DeGeneres and the first straight spokeswoman for the Human Rights Campaign's National Coming Out Project and an active member of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). She gained notability following her lesbian daughter Ellen's highly publicized coming out in 1997. Life and career The youngest of three daughters, DeGeneres was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1930, during the height of the Great Depression. Her father was German and her mother was Irish. Her sisters (Helen and Audrey) were not involved in day-to-day family life while DeGeneres was in her late teens, but the sisters did become close in adulthood. Parents, Families And Friends Of Lesbians And Gays
PFLAG is the United States' first and largest organization uniting parents, families, and allies with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+). PFLAG National is the national organization, which provides support to the PFLAG network of local chapters. PFLAG has over 400 chapters across the United States, with more than 200,000 members and supporters. ''PFLAG'' (pronounced ) is no longer an acronym, but just the name of the organization. ''Ellen'' is an American television sitcom that aired on ABC from March 29, 1994, to July 22, 1998, consisting of 109 episodes. The title role is Ellen Morgan, a neurotic bookstore owner in her thirties, played by stand-up comedian Ellen DeGeneres. The title of the series was ''These Friends of Mine'' for the first season, but it was subsequently changed to avoid confusion with the NBC series ''Friends'', which premiered in September 1994. The series centered on Ellen's dealing with her quirky friends, her family, and the problems of daily life, set in Los Angeles.
