Paulo Sérgio Betti (born 8 September 1952) is a Brazilian actor, playwright, and stage director. He also works occasionally as film producer and director. Biography Paulo Sérgio Betti was born on 8 September 1952 in Rafard, a small town in the state of São Paulo. In over thirty years of career, Betti has acted in over 20 ''telenovelas'' and in 21 feature films. His most notable role was as the revolutionary Captain Carlos Lamarca in '' Lamarca'' (1994) and ''Zuzu Angel'' (2006), both directed by Sérgio Rezende. For his role in ''Lamarca'', he won the São Paulo Association of Art Critics Award for Best Film Actor in 1995. He also hosted the show ''Novos Nomes em Cena'' of Canal Brasil, where he interviewed young Brazilian actors. Betti was married to actress Eliane Giardini between 1973 and 1997. Umberto Betti, O.F.M., S.T.D. (7 March 1922 – 1 April 2009) was an Italian priest of the Order of Friars Minor who on 24 November 2007 was appointed a cardinal-deacon of the Roman Catholic Church. Betti was born in Pieve Santo Stefano, Province of Arezzo. He began his novitiate in the Province of St. Francis Stigmatised in Tuscany on 23 July 1937, made his first profession on 2 August 1938 and his solemn profession on 31 December 1943. He was ordained priest on 5 April 1946. He obtained his doctorate in Dogmatic Theology and followed specialised studies at the Catholic University of Louvain in 1951-1951, after which he taught dogmatic theology in the order's study houses in Siena and Fiesole, and again in 1963–1964, after which he was appointed professor at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome, where he taught until 1991. Ugo Betti (4 February 1892 in Camerino – 9 June 1953 in Rome) was an Italian judge, better known as an author, who is considered by many the greatest Italian playwright next to Pirandello. Biography Betti studied law in Parma at the time when World War I broke out, and he volunteered as a soldier. After the war he finished his studies and became a judge. Writing in his spare time, he published his first collections of poems in 1922. These, titled ''Il re pensieroso'' (The Thoughtful King), were written while he was in German captivity from 1917 to 18. ''La Padrona'', his first play, was first performed in 1927, and the play's success made him devote himself entirely to the theatre. In 1931 he moved from Parma to Rome. In 1938 he was accused by the fascists of being a Jew and an anti-fascist. After World War II, he was accused of being a fascist, but was cleared of all charges. Riccardo Betti is the Robert L. McCrory professor of Mechanical Engineering and Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rochester, in Rochester, NY. Since 2004, he has also acted as the Director of the Fusion Science Center at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. He received is Ph.D. from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA) in 1992. Natale Betti (1826 – 1888) was an Italian painter. Biography He was born in Livorno. He studied art under Giuseppe Baldini at Livorno, then in Rome with Tommaso Minardi, and finally at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence with Giuseppe Bezzuoli and Benedetto Servolini. In 1846 at Florence, he exhibited a ''San Giovanni Battista''. In 1848, he joined the Italian armies and fought at Goito and Curtatone. He would paint canvases of these experiences, including ''L'esule italiano'' (1859, first exhibited in Genoa). After the war, he did not find local favor from the authorities of the Grand-Duchy of Tuscany. Biagio Betti (1535–1605) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance or Mannerist period. He was born in Cutigliano. He became, in 1557, a monk of the order of the Theatines of San Silvestro al Quirinale, and his works are principally confined to the monastery of that order in Rome. Liliana Betti (1937 – 19 August 1998) was an Italian screenwriter and director. She was sometimes credited as Liliane Betti. Born in Nigoline, Province of Brescia, Betti in 1957 moved to Rome, where she became a real-life friend of Federico Fellini. Fellini referred to her as "her boss" and as "the little goddess of ideas", and Betti was a collaborator, a casting director, a script supervisor and a second unit director for many of his films until 1980. As a screenwriter, she also often collaborated with Marco Ferreri and Enrico Oldoini.
