Ocean Colour Scene (often abbreviated to OCS) are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Solihull in 1989. They have had five top 10 albums including a number one in 1997. They have also achieved seventeen top 40 singles and six top 10 singles to date. History Early days (1990–1995) Ocean Colour Scene were formed after two other bands called The Boys and Fanatics disbanded. Fanatics released an Extended play, EP titled ''Suburban Love Songs''. OCS signed to Phfftt Records in 1990. Their first single, "Sway", was released in September 1990 during the indie (music), indie era. When their record label was swallowed up by larger company Phonogram Records, Phonogram their eponymous début album was remixed, against the band's wishes, to fit in with the Baggy/indie-dance musical trend of the time. Simon Fowler
Simon Geoffrey Fowler (born 25 May 1965 in Meriden, Warwickshire) is an English singer and acoustic guitarist, best known as the frontman of Ocean Colour Scene. The Fanatics Simon Fowler commenced his music career as the lead singer and songwriter for Birmingham band The Fanatics, which consisted of Simon Fowler (vocals & guitar), Damon Minchella (bass), Paul Wilkes (guitar) and Carolyn Bullock (drums). Future Ocean Colour Scene drummer and former Echo Base band member Oscar Harrison replaced Bullock on drums. The Fanatics released one record in 1989 before splitting, the four track 'Suburban Love Songs' 12" vinyl e.p. on Chapter 22 Records (12 CHAP 38), containing the songs "1,2,3,4"; "My Brother Sarah" (later re-recorded by Ocean Colour Scene), "Suburban Love Songs" and "Tight Rope". Oscar Lloyd Harrison (born 18 April 1965 in Birmingham) is a British musician who currently plays drums with Birmingham-based Ocean Colour Scene and the British ska band The Beat. He also plays piano and bass guitar, and occasionally sings lead vocals. Life and career Early days Harrison's first musical career began with an eleven-piece reggae band called Echo Base. Harrison had stated that he knew he wanted to be a musician from the moment he watched ''Top of the Pops'', an English performance chart show, and that he always admired reggae giant Burning Spear. Echo Base were signed to the same label as fellow Birmingham band UB40 and, despite releasing an album, disbanded after disagreements. After talking to Echo Base's manager, Harrison met and joined a band called 'The Fanatics', where he played alongside future friend Simon Fowler. Steve Cradock
Stephen "Steve" Cradock (born 22 August 1969 in Solihull) is an English guitarist, most notable for playing in the rock group Ocean Colour Scene. Cradock also plays the guitar in Paul Weller's band, having appeared on all of Weller's solo records following his self-titled debut solo album. Cradock began playing lead guitar for British Ska band The Specials in 2014. He is a distinctive guitarist, who has a retro, 1960s sound. Cradock's influences include The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Cradock, also known as Fanny, also plays keyboards, bass guitar and drums. Life and career Early years Cradock was born in Solihull, Warwickshire; his father Chris Cradock, a police officer, would later become his son's manager. ''Marchin' Already'' is the third album by Ocean Colour Scene. The album was a follow-up to the successful ''Moseley Shoals'', and is in a similar style. The songs were taken from the band's catalogue that they had built up since forming several years earlier. The single "Hundred Mile High City" was used in the film ''Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels''. P.P. Arnold appears on "Traveller's Tune" and "It's a Beautiful Thing". A more subdued version of "Traveller's Tune" originally appeared as a B-side to "The Day We Caught the Train". The album knocked Oasis' '' Be Here Now'' off the top spot in the UK Albums Chart—Noel Gallagher sent Ocean Colour Scene his congratulations through a plaque on which he had inscribed, "To The Second Best Band In Britain".
