Betsiboka Region
Betsiboka is a region of Madagascar. It borders Boeny Region in north, Sofia in northeast, Alaotra-Mangoro in east, Analamanga and Bongolava in south and Melaky in west. The capital of the region is Maevatanana. Until 2009 Betsiboka belonged to Mahajanga Province. The population was 394,561 in 2018 within the area of . Betsiboka is one of the least densely populated regions in Madagascar. Betsiboka River
Betsiboka River is a long river in central-north Madagascar. It flows northwestward and empties to Bombetoka Bay, forming a large river delta, delta. It originates to the east of Antananarivo. The river is surrounded in mangroves. The river is distinctive for its red-coloured water, which is caused by river sediments. The river carries an enormous amount of reddish-orange silt to the sea. Much of this silt is deposited at the mouth of the river or in the bay. It is dramatic evidence of the catastrophic erosion of northwestern Madagascar. Removal of the native forest for cultivation and pastureland during the past 50 years has led to massive annual soil losses approaching 250 metric tonnes per hectare (112 tons per acre) in some regions of the island, the largest amount recorded anywhere in the world. Betsiboka Bridge
The Betsiboka Bridge is a truss bridge over the Betsiboka River, in the district of Maevatanana, which is a part of Betsiboka Region, Madagascar. It is one of the longest bridge on the island, appr. 350 meters long. History The first bridge was one of the three suspension bridges erected in Madagascar by the French company ''G. Leinekugel Le Cocq & Fils'' between 1931 and 1934. It was destroyed in World War II and, thereafter, replaced by the present truss bridge which was refurbished in 1980 and rehabilitated in 2015. Kasijy Reserve
Kasijy Special Reserve is a wildlife reserve in the Betsiboka region of Madagascar. Nearly half of the species of plants and animals recorded within the reserve are endemic to Madagascar and BirdLife International have listed the reserve as an Important Bird Area.) Geography Kasijy Special Reserve is north-west of Bemonto (municipality of Antanimbaribe) in the Betsiboka region of Madagascar. Access is difficult because of the poor roads and there is no accommodation or Park Office in the reserve. The nearest accommodation is in the port of Mahajanga, to the north. Mahajanga Province
Mahajanga was a former province of Madagascar that had an area of 150,023 km². It had a population of 1,896,000 (2004). Its capital was Mahajanga, the second largest city in Madagascar. Except for Fianarantsoa, Mahajanga Province bordered all of the country's other provinces–Antsiranana in the north, Toamasina in the east, Antananarivo in the southeast and Toliara in the southwest. Sea cucumbers were an important commercial product produced in the province. In 1999, cholera epidemic broke out in the province. It infected 380 people and claimed 26 lives. Maevatanana is an urban municipality in Madagascar. The city is in the central-north part of the island, at the Ikopa River, and is connected by the national road RN 4 to Antananarivo and Mahajanga.
