Betsi DeVries
Betsi DeVries was a Democratic member of the New Hampshire Senate, representing the 18th district from 2006 until 2010. Previously she was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2004 through 2006. She lost her re-election bid in November 2010. She served as Chair of the New Hampshire Senate Public and Municipal Affairs Committee, is the Vice Chair of the Commerce, Labor and Consumer Protection Committee, and served on the Executive Departments and Administration Committee. The Senate District 18 comprises: Litchfield and Wards 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 in the city of Manchester. In addition to her elected positions Senator DeVries also serves on the board of directors of the Heritage United Way, and the Manchester YWCA. New Hampshire's 18th State Senate district is one of 24 districts in the New Hampshire Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Donna Soucy, formerly the President of the New Hampshire Senate, since 2012. Geography District 18 is based in Manchester, covering the city's 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th wards as well as the nearby town of Litchfield, all in Hillsborough County. Andre Martel
Andre A. "Andy" Martel (December 16, 1946 – December 22, 2016) was an American businessman and politician. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, Martel graduated from Bishop Bradley High School in 1964 and New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University) in 1971. Martel also took graduate classes at Emerson College, Wellesley College, Cornell University, and Princeton University. He worked in various businesses as a general manager and auditor. Martel served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002 and from 2012 until his death and served in the New Hampshire State Senate for the 18th district from 2002 to 2006. He was a Republican. Thomas H. DeBlois (born April 22, 1945) is an American politician who formerly served as a member of the New Hampshire Senate for the 18th district. Litchfield, New Hampshire
Litchfield is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 8,478 at the 2020 census. History Prior to European settlement, the area was populated by the Abenaki people. They were skilled with fishing and were adept in agriculture as well. The New Hampshire Archaeological Society has located over 30 Native American sites along the shore of the Merrimack River in Litchfield, with artifacts several thousands of years old being uncovered. Most of Litchfield was part of the large town known as Dunstable, which was organized in the 1600s and included land along both sides of the disputed New Hampshire-Massachusetts boundary, and out of which were carved several towns and cities in both states. Crystal Lake is a natural pond near Bodwell Road and Corning Road in south Manchester, New Hampshire, United States. Crystal Lake is a popular place for residents to enjoy swimming, boating and fishing. Geography The lake lies near the southeastern corner of Manchester at an elevation somewhat over above sea level. The lake's outlet stream flows west to Cohas Brook, a tributary of the Merrimack River, which flows south and east to the Gulf of Maine and the Atlantic Ocean.
