Bert Pratten
Herbert Graham "Bert" Pratten (22 April 1892 – 11 September 1979) was an Australian cricketer. A right-handed batsman, he played first-class cricket for New South Wales between 1913 and 1915. Biography Pratten was born in Sydney on 22 April 1892. His father Herbert Edward Pratten was a jam manufacturer who was later elected to federal parliament and served as a cabinet minister. Ashfield is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Ashfield is about 8 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Straits Settlements Cricket Team
The Straits Settlements cricket team was the team that represented the Straits Settlements in international cricket matches between 1890 and 1940. History Between 1890 and 1909, the Straits Settlements played regular Interport matches against Hong Kong, Ceylon and Shanghai. The Federated Malay States cricket team was a team that represented the Federated Malay States in international cricket matches between 1905 and 1940. Cricket has been played in Peninsular Malaysia since the 1880s, and the Federated Malay States usually combined with the Straits Settlements cricket team to form the Malaya cricket team. The Victoria men’s cricket team is an Australian first-class men's cricket team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The men’s team, which first played in 1851, represents the state of Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield first-class competition and the Marsh One Day Cup 50-over competition. It was known as the Victorian Bushrangers between 1995 and 2018, before dropping the Bushrangers nickname and electing to be known as simply Victoria in all cricket competitions. Herbert Pratten
Herbert Edward Pratten (7 May 1865 – 7 May 1928) was an Australian politician. He served as Minister for Health (Australia), Minister for Health (1924–1925) and Minister for Trade (Australia), Minister for Trade and Customs (1924–1928) in the Stanley Bruce, Bruce–Earle Page, Page Government. He became a Australian Senate, Senator for New South Wales in 1917, but resigned in 1921 to seek election to the Australian House of Representatives, House of Representatives where he served until his death in 1928. Early life Pratten was born on 7 May 1865 in Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire, England. He was the son of Ann Rebecca (née Vowles) and Herbert Graham Pratten; his mother died in 1870. Pratten was educated at the Society of Merchant Venturers, Merchant Venturers' Technical College and the Bristol Trade and Mining School.
