Bert Carpelan
Lieutenant General Ivar Bert Tyko Carpelan (2December 1895 – 16November 1981) was a Swedish Army officer. Carpelan's senior commands include Chief of the Army Staff and the General Staff Corps, commanding officer of the IV Military District and Commandant General in Stockholm. Early life Carpelan was born on 2 December 1895 in Nås, Kopparberg County, Sweden, the son of Axel Carpelan, a postmaster, and his wife Tekla (née Jäde). He passed ''studentexamen'' in Luleå in 1913. Career Carpelan was commissioned into the Swedish Army as second lieutenant in Småland Artillery Regiment (A 6) in 1918. Carpelan became lieutenant two years later and attended the Royal Central Gymnastics Institute from 1920 to 1922. He became an aerial reconnaissance officer in 1925 and a sergeant pilot in 1927. Sergeant Pilot
A sergeant pilot was a non-commissioned officer who had undergone flight training and was a qualified pilot in the air forces of several Commonwealth countries before, during and after World War II. It was also a term used in the United States Army Air Forces, where they were commonly called flying sergeants. After World War II, non-commissioned pilots began to be phased out and today all air force pilots are commissioned officers. Germany Enlisted pilots made up a considerable portion of German fighter aces in World War I. Sergeants who scored large numbers of aerial victories were often commissioned. Wendes Artillery Regiment
The Wendes Artillery Regiment ( sv, Wendes artilleriregemente), designation A 3, was a Swedish Army artillery regiment that traced its origins back to the 17th century. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from Scania, where it was garrisoned. The unit was disbanded as a result of the disarmament policies set forward in the Defence Act of 2000. History The regiment has its origins in the Artillery Regiment raised in 1636. That regiment was split into four new regiments in 1794 of which Wendes Artillery Regiment was one. The regiment was given the designation A 3 (3rd Artillery Regiment) in 1830. In 1893 two companies were split off to form 2nd Svea Artillery Regiment and 2nd Göta Artillery Regiment.
