''Berserker'' is the eleventh studio album by the Swedish death metal band Amon Amarth. It was released on 3 May 2019 through Metal Blade Records. The album was produced by Jay Ruston and marks the first album by the band to feature drummer Jocke Wallgren, who joined the band in 2016. Amon Amarth
Amon Amarth () is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band takes its name from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom, a volcano in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Their lyrics mostly deal with Viking mythology and history, and so they have been sometimes erroneously labeled "Viking metal", although the band insists they play melodic death metal. The band is composed of lead guitarist Olavi Mikkonen, vocalist Johan Hegg, bassist Ted Lundström, rhythm guitarist Johan Söderberg, and drummer Jocke Wallgren. Amon Amarth has released 12 studio albums, one compilation album, one EP, one video album, and ten music videos. Their first studio album, ''Once Sent from the Golden Hall'', debuted in 1998. Sverigetopplistan (, lit. "the Sweden top list") is the Swedish national record chart, formerly known as Topplistan (1975–1997) and Hitlistan (1998–2007) and known by its current name since October 2007, based on sales data from the Swedish Recording Industry Association (in Swedish Grammofonleverantörernas förening). Before Topplistan, music sales in Sweden were recorded by Kvällstoppen, whose weekly chart was a combined albums and singles list. Michael Lord is an American songwriter, composer, producer and Indie recording artist. His 2004 release ''SWAY'' found an audience when his song ''Smile'' was chosen by the Apple iTunes Music Store as their Single of The Week. Other songs from ''SWAY'' including "Bleed" and "Forgiven" soon found their way into hit television shows such as ''Alias (TV series), Alias'' and ''What About Brian''. He followed ''SWAY'' with a mini EP titled ''The String Sessions'' reinterpreting the songs from ''SWAY'' acoustically with a string quartet. The album's name and title track refer to Thor's slaying of the Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr. Melodic Death Metal
Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal that employs highly melodic guitar riffs, often borrowing from traditional heavy metal (including New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The genre features the heaviness of death metal but with highly melodic or harmonized guitar riffs and solos, and often features high-pitched shrieked vocals (differing from traditional death metal) alongside the low-pitched growls commonly featured in traditional death metal. Pioneered by the English heavy metal band Carcass with their 1993 album ''Heartwork'', melodic death metal developed further in Sweden (developed by bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames) in the mid-1990s.
