Berry Hill RFC
Berry Hill Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club located in Coleford, Gloucestershire. The first XV currently plays in Gloucester Premier, an eighth tier league in the English rugby union system. The club also operates two additional senior sides and a junior section. League history When the league system was established in 1987, Berry Hill was placed in South West 2. It was a successful season for the club as not only did they win promotion but Berry Hill also reached the last 16 of the John Player Cup. Four seasons later they were promoted to the national divisions and played in 1992–93 Courage National 4 South. Reorganisation saw the club placed in Courage League Division 5 South for the following season. They played in that division throughout that competition's three year history and were placed back National 4 South for the 1996-97 season. Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union
The Gloucestershire Rugby Football Union is the union responsible for rugby union in the county of Gloucestershire, England and is one of the constituent bodies of the national Rugby Football Union. Formed in 1878, it has won the county championship on numerous occasions. History The Union was formed at a meeting held at Gloucester in September, 1878. At that meeting, the clubs represented were Clifton RFC, Gloucester RFC, Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester RFC, Rockleage, Stroud, and Cheltenham White Cross. The Union was formed mainly due to the efforts of J. D. Miller, J. H. Dunn, and J. F. Brown. all of whom were amongst the Union's first officers. The 1992–93 Courage National 4 South was the sixth full season of rugby union within the fourth tier of the English league system, currently known as National League 2 South. By the end of the campaign Sudbury were crowned league champions, 2 points clear of runners-up London Welsh. Impending changes to the league structure by the RFU meant that several new leagues were to be introduced. This meant that champions Sudbury were promoted into the 1993–94 Division 4 while everyone else fell to Courage League Division 5 South. Gloucester 1 is an English rugby union league which sits at the ninth level of league rugby union in England for teams based primarily in the county of Gloucestershire but also on occasion teams from Bristol. Promoted clubs move into Gloucester Premier and relegated clubs drop into either Gloucester 2 North or Gloucester 2 South depending on location. Each year clubs in this division also take part in the RFU Junior Vase - a level 9-12 national competition. Tribute Western Counties North
Counties 1 Western North (known as Counties 1 Tribute Western North for sponsorship purposes) is an English rugby union league. Originally a single division called Western Counties, in 1996 the division split into two regional leagues called Western Counties North and Western Counties West. Western Counties North was renamed Counties 1 Western North prior to the 2022–23 season and is currently a seventh tier league for clubs based in the south-west of England; mainly Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset. The champions are promoted to South West 1 West and the runner-up plays the second team in Western Counties West, with the winning team gaining promotion. The number of teams relegated depends on feedback following promotion and relegation in the leagues above, but is usually two or three to Gloucester Premier and Somerset Premier. Regional 1 South West (formerly South West Premier and National League 3 South West) is a level five league in the English rugby union system. It is one of six leagues at this level. When this division began in 1987 it was known as South West Division 1. The format of the league was changed at the beginning of the 2009–10 season following reorganisation by the Rugby Football Union, and the name change from National League 3 to South West Premier was introduced for the 2017–18 season by the RFU in order to lessen confusion for what is a series of regional leagues. 1996–97 Courage League Division 4 South
The 1996–97 Courage League Division 4 South was the tenth full season of rugby union within the fourth tier of the English league system, currently known as National League 2 South, and the last using the name Division 4 South. Changes to the league structure by the RFU at the start of the season saw Courage League 4 revert to two regional divisions ( Courage League Division 4 North and Courage League Division 4 South), while the regional leagues below (Courage League Division 5) was split back into regional leagues - North 1, Midlands 1, London 1 and South West 1. This meant that National Division 4 South increased from 10 to 14 teams (28 overall) with multiple teams coming up from the discontinued Division 5. Courage League Division 5
Courage Division 5 was a short lived English rugby union competition created as a tier 5 regional competition divided into Courage Division 5 North and Courage Division 5 South. In 1993 the RFU decided to change the whole league structure, with a new national league (Courage Division League 4) replacing the old North / South regional system which would become the aforementioned Courage Division 5. This led to twelve out of thirteen teams in both Courage Division 4 regions dropping into Courage Division 5 while the league winners joined Courage Division 4 along with eight teams from Courage Division 3. This system continued to the end of the 1995–96 season when the league was restructured once again – with Courage Division 4 being abolished as a national competition reverting to the old system only being renamed as National League 4 North and National League 4 South. Coleford, Gloucestershire
Coleford is a market town in the west of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England, east of the Welsh border and close to the Wye Valley. It is the administrative centre of the Forest of Dean district. The combined population of the town's two electoral wards at the 2011 census was 8,359.
