Bookham, New South Wales
Bookham is a small village in the Southern Tablelands and Riverina regions of New South Wales, Australia in Yass Valley Shire. It is about 29 km west of Yass on the Hume Highway. Overview The general grazing area which now encompasses the village of Bookham was originally collectively called ''Bogolong'' and childhood memories of the races at ''Bogalong Racetrack'' inspired Banjo Paterson to write his poem ''Old Pardon the Son of Reprieve''. The name change came about in 1839 when Lady Jane Franklin, wife of John Franklin, the Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land between 1837 and 1843, became the first European woman to travel overland from Port Phillip to Sydney and stayed in the area in 1839. Shortly after a design for the village at ''Cumbookambookinah'' near Bogolong was drawn up and that name was shortened either through general usage or by design to the current name of Bookham. Jugiong is a locality and town on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River near its confluence with Jugiong Creek. in the Hilltops Council Local Government area, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated just off the Hume Highway, by road, about 30 kilometres southwest from Bookham and 40 kilometres northeast from Gundagai. The area now known as Jugiong lies on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people. The name Jugiong is almost certainly a settler rendering of a Wiradjuri language word. Settlers said that it was from U-go-wong''' meaning 'the valley of the crows'. It was first settled in the 1820s when Henry O'Brien started grazing sheep on the Jugiong Run. Hilltops Council is a local government area in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia. This area was formed on 12 May 2016 from the merger of Boorowa Council, Harden Shire and Young Shire. The local government area covers much the same area as the Hilltops wine region. Binalong (Bine-a-long) is a village in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia, 37 km north-west of Yass in Yass Valley Shire. Yass, New South Wales
Yass () is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Yass Valley Council. The name appears to have been derived from an Aboriginal word, "Yarrh" (or "Yharr"), said to mean 'running water'. Yass is located 280 km south-west of Sydney, on the Hume Highway. The Yass River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River, flows through the town. Yass is 59 km from Canberra; lying at an elevation of 505 m AMSL. Hume Highway, inclusive of the sections now known as Hume Freeway and Hume Motorway, is one of Australia's major inter-city national highways, running for between Melbourne in the southwest and Sydney in the northeast. Adjungbilly is a rural community in the central east part of the Riverina and on the north-western edge of the Snowy Mountains. It is situated about 29 kilometres south-east of Gobarralong, New South Wales, Gobarralong and 35 kilometres north-east of Tumut, New South Wales, Tumut. The (first) Tomooroma Post Office opened on 15 May 1896, was renamed Adjungbilly in 1899 and closed in 1974. The area of Adjungbilly was originally referred to as Nadjongbilla, from the Wiradjuri word ''nadjong'' meaning water and ''billa'' meaning creek, therefore referring to the area's creek with its permanent water supply. The area has a community hall and a small isolated primary school named the Bongongo Public School probably in relation to the nearby Bongongo Station.
