Bernie Fraser (economist)
Bernard William Fraser (born 26 February 1941) is an Australian economist and was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from September 1989 to September 1996. Fraser was born in Junee, New South Wales in 1941. He joined the Commonwealth Public Service in 1961, starting at the Department of National Development. Educated at the University of New England and the Australian National University, Bernie Fraser joined the Commonwealth Public Service in 1961, spending time in Treasury, interspersed with postings in London as a Treasury representative, three years in the Department of Finance and three years as Director of the National Energy Office. He soon moved to the Department of Treasury, in 1963. He was its London representative from 1969 to 1972. In 1981 Fraser was appointed Director of the National Energy Office. Governor Of The Reserve Bank Of Australia
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is Australia's central bank and banknote issuing authority. It has had this role since 14 January 1960, when the ''Reserve Bank Act 1959'' removed the central banking functions from the Commonwealth Bank. The bank's main policy role is to control inflation levels within a target range of 2-3%, by controlling the unemployment rate according to the NAIRU, via controlling the official cash rate. The NAIRU was implemented in most Western nations after 1975, and has been maintained at a target of 5-6% unemployment. The average unemployment rate in Australia between the end of the second world war and the implementation of the NAIRU was consistently between 1-2%. Chris Higgins (Australian Public Servant)
Christopher Ian Higgins (3 April 19436 December 1990) was a senior Australian public servant and economist. He was Secretary of the Department of the Treasury from September 1989 until his death. Life and career Chris Higgins was born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales on 3 April 1943. He attended Ballina High School. In 1960, Higgins came to Canberra as a Commonwealth Bureau of Statistics Cadet. He graduated in 1964 from the Canberra University College (now known as the Australian National University) with a Bachelor of Economics with first class honours in economics and statistics. He then won a postgraduate scholarship to study for his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania under supervisor Lawrence Klein. Between 1975 and 1989, Higgins was a senior executive officer in the Department of the Treasury, including as a deputy secretary from 1984. John Stone (Australian Politician)
John Owen Stone (born 31 January 1929) is a former Australian public servant and politician. He was Secretary to the Treasury between 1979 and 1984, and a senator for Queensland, representing the National Party, from 1987 to 1990. Early life Stone was born on 31 January 1929 in Perth, Western Australia. After gaining first class honours in mathematical physics for his bachelor of science degree and representing his state at hockey (under 21), he was selected as the Rhodes Scholar from Western Australia for 1951. At Oxford he was awarded first class honours in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and won the James Webb Medley Prize for Economics. Junee
Junee () is a medium-sized town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The town's prosperity and mixed services economy is based on a combination of agriculture, rail transport, light industry and government services, and in particular correctional services. In 2015 Junee's urban population was 4,762. Place name One theory is that word ''Junee'' which originates from the Aboriginal word 'Junee' means "speak to me". Climate Change Authority
The Climate Change Authority (CCA) is an Australian Government statutory agency responsible for providing independent advice to government on climate change policy. It was established by and operates under the ''Climate Change Authority Act 2011''. The Authority commenced operations on 1 July 2012. It was setup by Julia Gillard and has withstood concerted efforts for its disestablishment. The Abbott Government campaigned for the CCA's abolishment, having successfully abolished the Climate Commission.
