Bernhard Herbert Garside (born 21 January 1962) is a British diplomat who served as Ambassador to El Salvador from 2015 to 2019. Career Garside attended the University of Glasgow and obtained an MA in German and Social & Political Philosophy. He joined the Foreign Office in 1983 and postings included Oman, UAE, Nigeria, Cuba, Netherlands, Sudan, Algeria, El Salvador and Ecuador. The ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of El Salvador is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in El Salvador, and in charge of the UK's diplomatic mission in San Salvador. Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. The Queen's Birthday Honours for 2020 are appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries.
