Bernard Descôteaux
Bernard Descôteaux (; 1947 – 13 January 2024) was a Canadian journalist. He was the editor-in-chief and director of the Montreal-based newspaper ''Le Devoir'' from 1999 through 2016. In a career spanning over four decades, he covered Montreal's municipal politics and parliamentary reporting from Ottawa and Quebec City. Descôteaux was made an officer of the National Order of Quebec in 2010 and received the National Assembly medal of honour in 2017. Early life Bernard Descôteaux was born in Nicolet, Quebec in 1947. Nicolet, Quebec
Nicolet () is the county seat of Nicolet-Yamaska Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 8,169. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nicolet. The residents of the town pronounce the final "t" in Nicolet, however people outside of the region do not. History The town took its name from Jean Nicolet, a French explorer and clerk of the Company of One Hundred Associates, who explored the Great Lakes region west to Wisconsin. Despite never having lived there, he explored the area during the seven years he lived in Trois-Rivières. The area was originally settled by the Abenaki tribe, who knew it as ''Pithigan'' or ''Pithiganek'', meaning "entrance". ''La Voix de l'Est'' is a French-language daily newspaper published in Granby, Quebec. It is printed on the presses of the neighbouring daily ''La Tribune'' in Sherbrooke, Quebec. A weekly version of the newspaper is offered as a free supplement once a week on Wednesdays with the publication ''Le Plus''. The newspaper was founded by Imprimerie Rapide and the first issue was published on 20 June 1935. It became a daily publication on 24 February 1945. On 7 September 1945, Imprimerie Rapide changed its name to La Voix de l'Est Ltée. In 1968, the paper was sold to Journaux Trans-Canada (an affiliate of Power Corporation of Canada). Lise Bissonnette
Lise Bissonnette (born December 13, 1945) is a Canadian writer and journalist. Biography Born in Rouyn, Quebec, Bissonnette studied education science at the Université de Montréal from 1965 to 1970. She later pursued doctoral studies at the University of Strasbourg and the École pratique des hautes études in Paris. In 1974, she became a reporter for the daily newspaper ''Le Devoir''. She became the parliamentary correspondent in Quebec City, then in Ottawa, before taking on the position of editorialist and, finally, that of writer-in-chief in 1982. From 1986 to 1990, she worked as an independent journalist and consultant, and collaborated with many Quebec and Canadian media organizations. Massey College, Toronto
Massey College is a graduate residential college at the University of Toronto that was established, built and partially endowed in 1962 by the Massey Foundation and officially opened in 1963, though women were not admitted until 1974.
