Bernard Becaas
Bernard Becaas (1955–2000) was a France, French Cycling, cyclist. He was born in Oloron-Sainte-Marie on May 23, 1955 and died on August 25th, 2000, following a Motorcycle accident, Motorcycle Accident. Biography Becass began cycling in the cadet category of FC Oloron Cycling. He won an Aquitaine champion title in 1972. As an amateur, he won the Paris-Rouen (cycle race), Paris-Rouen in 1976 and the Nice Grand Prix in 1977 as well as two stages of the Tour de l'Avenir. Oloron-Sainte-Marie
Oloron-Sainte-Marie (; oc, Auloron e Senta Maria; eu, Oloroe-Donamaria) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2015: Aquitaine), southwestern France. History The town was founded by the Romans in the 1st century, then known as ''Illoronensium''. Situated on the Roman way between the important towns of Dax and Saragossa, its position was strategic. Today known as Saint-Great, Gratus of Oloron became in 506 the first known archbishop of the Ancient Diocese of Oloron then known as "Iluro". The history of the town during the Migration Period is little known. In 1080, the viscount Centule V, Viscount of Béarn built the new city of "Oloron" (medieval version of the Roman name Iluro) on the opposite side of the river from the diocese center. Tour de l'Avenir ( en, Tour of the Future) is a French road bicycle racing stage race, which started in 1961 as a race similar to the Tour de France and over much of the same course but for amateurs and for semi-professionals known as independents. Felice Gimondi, Joop Zoetemelk, Greg LeMond, Miguel Indurain, Laurent Fignon, Egan Bernal, and Tadej Pogačar won the Tour de l'Avenir and went on to win 15 Tours de France, with an additional 10 podium placings between them.
