The Bermuda women's national cricket team represents the British overseas territory of Bermuda in international women's cricket matches. The team made its international debut in 2006 and qualified for the 2008 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier. History Background Women's cricket in Bermuda dates to the late 1930s, when Black Bermudian women excluded from white establishments like tennis clubs established a social cricket competition. In 1943 a cup was donated, but the women's cricket scene later declined. The sport underwent a revival in the 1970s due to sponsorship from local hotels, who sponsored teams made up of their employees. The Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) is the official ICC recognised organisation chosen to represent Bermuda in terms of cricket issues. The board was set up in 1938, and became an associate member of the International Cricket Council in 1966. In cricket, an extra (sometimes called a sundry) is a run scored by, or awarded to, a batting team which is not credited to any individual batsman. They are the runs scored by methods other than striking the ball with the bat. The extras are tallied separately on the scorecard and count only towards the team's score. Twenty20
Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. Together with first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about two and a half hours, with each innings lasting around 70 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. This is much shorter than previous forms of the game, and is closer to the timespan of other popular team sports. Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) is the shortest form of women's international cricket. A women's Twenty20 International is a 20 overs-per-side cricket match between two of the International Cricket Council (ICC) members. The first Twenty20 International match was held in August 2004 between England and New Zealand, six months before the first Twenty20 International match was played between two men's teams. The Brazil women's national cricket team represents the country of Brazil in women's cricket matches. History In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members.
