Berlin Green Sox
The Berlin Busy Bees (also known as the Berlin Green Sox and the Berlin Dutchmen) were a minor league baseball team in Berlin ( renamed as Kitchener), Ontario that played in the Canadian League from 1911 through 1913. The league was classified as Class D in 1911 and as Class C from 1912 through 1913. The team's owner from 1911 to 1912 was William J. "Pop" Williams; in the winter of 1912–13 he sold the team for $2,000 to the Twin Cities Athletic Association, headed by Dr. F. H. Kalbfleisch. The team played its home games in Victoria Park. The 1911 team easily won the Canadian League pennant with a record of 70–40, 11 games ahead of second-place London. The team's manager and first baseman was George "Rube" Deneau. Their shortstop, Raymond "Scotty" Cameron, was described as the "fastest man in the league", and was compared with Joe Tinker; he hit .341 and stole 48 bases. Canadian League
The Canadian League was a minor league baseball league that operated in Canada in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The first version of the league operated in 1885, then from 1896–1899, becoming a Class-D league in 1899 and merging into the International League in 1900. In 1905 there was a four-team class D loop known as the Canadian League. Another league using that title ran from 1911 through 1915 — it was originally ranked a D league as well, moved to a C rating a year later and in 1914 got a B classification. Frank Shaughnessy managed the Ottawa team from 1913 to 1915. The league briefly returned in 1905 and then operated again from 1911 to 1915. Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Known as "The Royal City", Guelph is roughly east of Kitchener and west of Downtown Toronto, at the intersection of Highway 6, Highway 7 and Wellington County Road 124. It is the seat of Wellington County, but is politically independent of it. Guelph began as a settlement in the 1820s, established by Scotsman John Galt, who was in Upper Canada as the first Superintendent of the Canada Company. He based the headquarters, and his home, in the community. The area – much of which became Wellington County – had been part of the Halton Block, a Crown Reserve for the Six Nations Iroquois.
