Berkovitsa Municipality
Berkovitsa Municipality ( bg, Община Берковица) is a municipality ('' obshtina'') in Montana Province, Northwestern Bulgaria, located in the area of the so-called Fore-Balkan to the northern slopes of the western Stara planina mountain. It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Berkovitsa. The municipality embraces a territory of 470 km² with a population of 18,503 inhabitants, as of February 2011. Berkovitsa Glacier
Berkovitsa Glacier ( bg, ледник Берковица, lednik Berkovitsa, ) is a glacier on Livingston Island, Antarctica situated east of Etar Snowfield, south of Medven Glacier, west-northwest of Tundzha Glacier and north-northeast of Verila Glacier. It is bounded by the southeastern slopes of Oryahovo Heights and the northwestern slopes of Snow Peak. It extends 4 km in southeast-northwest direction and 2.8 km in northwest-southeast direction, and drains northeastwards into Hero Bay between Avitohol Point and Remetalk Point. Kom Peak
Kom Peak ( bg, Ком ) or Golyam Kom (Голям Ком, "Big Kom") is a peak in the western Balkan Mountains, located in western Bulgaria, not far from the Serbian border. The peak is 2,016 metres high and lies south of the town of Berkovitsa, of which it is a traditional symbol. Kom, along with the lower peaks Sreden Kom ("Middle Kom") and Malak Kom ("Little Kom") to the east, form a west-east elevation with a round grassy ridge, a steep rocky northern slope and a slant grassy southern slope. Looking north, one can see Berkovitsa and the surrounding fields, as well as Montana and the Ogosta Reservoir some 30 kilometres away. The peak inspired national writer Ivan Vazov to create the poem ''On Kom''. In his honour, a bas-relief plaque bearing his image and excerpts from the poem has been installed on the peak. Timo Angelov
Eftim Angelov ( bg, Ефтим Ангелов), known as Timo Angelov (Bulgarian: Тимо Ангелов), was a Bulgarian revolutionary, a member of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMARO). Eftim Angelov was born in the town of Berkovitsa in 1882. He studied in the smithery school in Samokov, where he was nicknamed Timo Knyaza (the prince) and Eftim Tsarya (the tsar) by his friends. In Samokov he was member of the Trayko Kitanchev Revolutionary Circle which produced bombs for the needs of IMARO. In 1900 he went to the region of Mehomia as a freedom fighter and in 1903 he was appointed leader of the Tikvesh region. On 24 March 1903 the joint revolutionary bands of few leaders, among which were Hristo Chernopeev, Kosta Mazneykov (from the region of Radovish), Nikola Dechev (from the region of Veles) and Timo Angelov, went to Macedonia. Zaječar ( sr-Cyrl, Зајечар, ; ro, Zaicear or ) is a city and the administrative center of the Zaječar District in eastern Serbia. Dzerzhinsky (russian: Дзержи́нский) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the bank of the Moskva River, south of the city of Lyubertsy. The Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO; bg, Вътрешна Македонска Революционна Организация (ВМРО), translit=Vatrešna Makedonska Revoljucionna Organizacija (VMRO); mk, Внатрешна Македонска Револуционерна Организација, translit=Vnatrešna Makedonska Revolucionerna Organizacija), was a secret revolutionary society founded in the Ottoman territories in Europe, that operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ivan Vazov
Ivan Minchov Vazov ( bg, Иван Минчов Вазов; – 22 September 1921) was a Bulgarian poet, novelist and playwright, often referred to as "the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature". He was born in Sopot, a town in the Rose Valley of Bulgaria (then part of the Ottoman Empire). The works of Ivan Vazov reveal two historical epochs - the Bulgarian Renaissance and the Post-Liberation (from Ottoman Empire rule) epoch. Dimitrovgrad ( sr-cyr, Димитровград) alternatively Caribrod ( bg, Цариброд, Tsaribrod) is a town and municipality located in the Pirot District of southeastern Serbia. According to 2011 census, the municipality of Dimitrovgrad has a population of 10,118 people and the town 6,278.
