Berdyansk
Berdiansk or Berdyansk ( uk, Бердя́нськ, translit=Berdiansk, ; russian: Бердя́нск, translit=Berdyansk ) is a port city in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast (province) in south-eastern Ukraine. It is on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, which is the northern extension of the Black Sea. It serves as an administrative center of Berdiansk Raion (district), though it does not belong to the raion. The city is named after the Berda River forming the Berdianska Spit at the foot of which it is located. Berdiansk is home to a safari zoo, water park, museums, health resorts with mud baths and climatic treatments, and numerous water sport activities. Since 27 February 2022, it is under Russian military occupation. Name Its original name was "Kutur-Ogly". The city name changed to "Novo-Nogaisk" in 1830 ("New Nogaisk") (see Nogai). Sea Of Azov
The Sea of Azov ( Crimean Tatar: ''Azaq deñizi''; russian: Азовское море, Azovskoye more; uk, Азовське море, Azovs'ke more) is a sea in Eastern Europe connected to the Black Sea by the narrow (about ) Strait of Kerch, and is sometimes regarded as a northern extension of the Black Sea. The sea is bounded by Russia on the east, by Ukraine on the northwest and southwest. The sea is largely affected by the inflow of the Don, Kuban, and other rivers, which bring sand, silt, and shells, which in turn form numerous bays, limans, and narrow spits. Because of these deposits, the sea bottom is relatively smooth and flat with the depth gradually increasing toward the middle. Also, due to the river inflow, water in the sea has low salinity and a high amount of biomass (such as green algae) that affects the water colour. Nikolay Kobozev
Nikolay Stepanovich Kobozev (Russian: Николай Степанович Кобозев; also spelled: Кобызев, Кобезев, Кобзев; (6 December 1793 – 2 March 1866)) was one of the founders of Berdiansk, and its first mayor. He was a merchant of the 1st Guild (since 1841), a fishing magnate, and a hereditary honorary citizen of Berdiansk since 1851. Berdiansk Raion or Berdyansk Raion ( uk, Бердянський район) is one of the five raions (districts) of Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine. The administrative center of the region is Berdiansk. The Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhia Oblast is an ongoing military occupation, which began on 24 February 2022, as Russian forces invaded Ukraine and began capturing the southern portion of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. On 26 February, the city of Berdiansk came under Russian control, followed by the Russian victory at Melitopol on 1 March. Russian forces also laid siege and captured the city of Enerhodar, home to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which came under Russian control on 4 March. Polina Denisovna Osipenko (russian: Полина Денисовна Осипенко, uk, Поліна Денисівна Осипенко, translit=Polina Denysivna Osypenko; 8 October 1907 – 11 May 1939) was a Soviet Union, Soviet military pilot, most notable as the co-pilot who, together with Valentina Grizodubova and Marina Raskova on September 24–25, 1938 performed a non-stop flight between Moscow and the Sea of Okhotsk, setting a new distance record for non-stop flights operated by women. Osypenko, Berdiansk Raion
Osypenko ( uk, Осипенко) is a village (''selo'') in southern Ukraine. It is located in the Berdiansk Raion (raion, district) of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast (oblast, province) just across from Berdiansk, Berdiiansk on the left bank of river Berda. The village was established in 1805 by runaway serfs from Poltava Governorate. Until 1939 it was known as Novospasivka. The village was renamed as ''Osypenko'' which is a proper last name for Polina Osipenko, born in the village, who survived an airplane crash of test flight from Moscow to the Russian Far East without landing, after the nearby city of Berdiansk was re-renamed. Pryazovia
Pryazovia ( uk, Приазов'я, sometimes spelled Приозів‘я, Pryozivia; russian: Приазовье, Priazovye) or literally Cis-Azov region is usually used to refer to the geographic area of the north coast of the Sea of Azov. It is located in the northern part of the Azov-Kuban Lowland which surrounds the Sea of Azov for most of the stretch of coastline. In a more general sense it may mean the Azov Sea littoral.
