Saint Berardo
Berardo (11th century – 19 December 1123) is an Italian saint, patron saint of the city and diocese of Teramo. Life Berardo was born into the noble family da Pagliara, whose castle bore their name near the town of Isola del Gran Sasso in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Important information concerning his life is found in the ancient church records from this area as well as the chronicles of his successor, the Bishop Sassone. Berardo entered the monastery in Montecassino as a young man and was later associated with the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere. He became well known for his good works and upon the death of the Bishop Uberto, Berardo was asked to become a pastor in the territory of Teramo. He took on this role for seven years beginning in 1116 and focused his efforts on helping the poor and making peace amongst the warring factions of the local citizenry. Berardo died in 1123. Berardo Dei Marsi
Blessed Berardo dei Marsi (1079 – 3 November 1130) was a Catholic Italian cardinal. He was proclaimed Blessed in 1802 as he was deemed to be holy and that miracles were performed through his intercession. Biography Berardo dei Marsi was born in 1079 to Berardo and Theodosia. He was the great-uncle of Saint Rosalia. As a child he studied with the canons of the cathedral of Santa Sabina dei Marsi and also studied at Monte Cassino from 1095 to 1102. He became the governor of Campagna after Pope Paschal II appointed him to that position. He also served as an administrator to Campagna at the behest of the pope. The pope also elevated him to the cardinalate in 1099 as a Cardinal-Deacon and he opted for the order of Cardinal-Priest sometime after. He was appointed as the Bishop of Marsi in 1113 and he proved to be a reformer in his diocese. He battled against simony and pushed for the idea of clerical celibacy. Berardo Di Castagna
Berard of Castagna ( – 8 September 1252) was a prelate and diplomat of the Kingdom of Sicily, who served as the archbishop of Bari (1207–1213) and archbishop of Palermo (1213–1252). Throughout his career he was a close ally of King Frederick II, who was also Holy Roman Emperor after 1220. He played a prominent role in the Sixth Crusade, both in the diplomatic preliminaries and in Frederick's visit to Jerusalem. Origins and early life Berard was born between about 1167 and 1177. His family and name came from Castagna in the Abruzzo. Berardo Eroli (1409–1479) (called the Cardinal of Spoleto) was an Italian Roman Catholic bishop and cardinal. Biography Berardo Eroli was born in Narni in 1409. He was from an otherwise obscure family. He studied at Rome, becoming a doctor of both laws. He was made a Referendary by Pope Nicholas V, who admitted him to the Apostolic Palace. Nicholas later made him auditor of the Roman Rota. He was elected Bishop of Spoleto on 13 November 1448. He served as Vicar of Rome during the pontificates of Pope Nicholas V and Pope Callixtus III. He later became a regent of the Apostolic Chancellery. In the consistory celebrated in Siena on 5 March 1460, Pope Pius II made him a cardinal priest.
