Beowülf
Beowülf is an American crossover thrash metal band formed in Venice Beach, California, in 1981 by Michael Alvarado, Dale Henderson, Mike Jensen and Paul Yamada. The group never gained a large mainstream success, but is considered one of the first bands that defined the "Venice Scene" in the 1980s, along with Suicidal Tendencies, Los Cycos, Neighborhood Watch, No Mercy, Excel and Uncle Slam, who all played a mix of skate punk, hardcore, heavy metal and thrash. As of 2011, Beowülf has released six studio albums. They split up in 1995, but reformed in 2000. The band has had numerous line-up changes and Henderson has been the only constant member. Westminster & 5th
''Westminster & 5th'' was released in 2007 and is the fifth studio album by American crossover thrash band Beowülf and the first since ''2¢'' (1995) and the subsequent hiatus of the band. The sound and playing on ''Westminster & 5th'' is reminiscent of Beowülf's first two albums: '' Beowülf'' (1986) and '' Lost My Head...'' (1988). Background Since its inception, Beowülf's only constant member has been Dale Henderson and he is joined on this album by Rich Rowan, Kevin Sullivan and Stefan Crapia. Rowan and Sullivan were a part of the Beowülf line-up for ''Un-Sentimental'' (1993). They rejoined Henderson in the band Kool-Whip after Beowülf broke up in 1995. After performing for several years as Kool-Whip and notwithstanding some success, Henderson reverted to playing Beowülf songs. Un-Sentimental
''Un-Sentimental'' is the third album by Beowülf, released in 1993. It is the only official Beowülf album to be released under the band name BWF. This album marked a change for the band, drifting more to bluesy rock and abandoning from their classic hardcore thrash style. Released during the grunge era, Beowülf achieved small success with the album in Los Angeles as the band had gathered some following. ''Un-Sentimental'' was the first new album since the band ended with a temporary break up in the early 1990s. Dale Henderson, the band's founder and chief songwriter, is the only original member appearing on the album. Therefore, many purists object to it being called "Beowülf" or simply "BWF" and consider it to be a Dale Henderson solo project. Dale Henderson
Dale Henderson (born January 8, 1966) is an American musician. He is best known as the frontman and guitarist of the crossover thrash band Beowülf where he is the only constant member. He composed the music and wrote the lyrics on all of Beowülf's albums. Biography Henderson's musical career began in 1981 when he joined the local punk band Black Sheep. The band also consisted of former Neighborhood Watch former Mike Jensen, Paul Yamada on bass and Mike Jensen's cousin, Roger DeGiacomi, on drums. The band played many parties, bars and clubs in Venice in 1981–1982 before DeGiacomi became the band manager and was replaced by Michael Alvarado on drums in 1983, changing the name of the band to Beowülf or BWF (The F being inverted) as they wrote it in Venice "graffiti slang". Los Cycos was an American crossover thrash band founded in 1984 in Venice, Los Angeles, California, by Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. The only recording of the band appears on the rare 1985 release ''Welcome to Venice'', the debut album and first release from Suicidal Records. History Los Cycos formed in 1984. It was the brainchild of Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. During the first year of the band's four-year recording hiatus, current guitarist Jon Nelson left the group to start his own band (the Brood) along with fellow drummer and bandmate Amery Smith. Christian Olde Wolbers
Christian Olde Wolbers (born 5 August 1972) is a Belgian musician, songwriter, and producer who is the bassist and backing vocalist of the heavy metal band Powerflo. He is the former bassist, guitarist and backing vocalist of the heavy metal band Fear Factory, and the hardcore punk/crossover thrash band Beowülf. He is also current the bass player in the thrash metal band Vio-lence. Musical career Olde Wolbers was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and moved to the United States in 1993. He was asked to join Fear Factory in December 1993 as a bass player. He recorded five albums with them. The group disbanded in 2002 and when it reformed in 2003, Olde Wolbers had switched to guitar, replacing Dino Cazares. Michael Allen Muir (born March 14, 1963) is an American singer who is the lead vocalist and the only sole continuous member of Los Angeles-based bands Suicidal Tendencies, Los Cycos, and Infectious Grooves. He has also released several solo albums under his nickname Cyco Miko. Muir's trademark is wearing bandanas, jerseys with the number 13, and hats with block-style letters that read "suicidal". Excel (band)
Excel is a crossover thrash band from Venice, California, founded in 1983 by singer Dan Clements and guitarist Adam Siegel. They were influenced by 1970s punk rock musicians like the Germs and Black Flag, and heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath, Trouble, Slayer, Corrosion of Conformity and Cryptic Slaughter. They were also influenced by street art, Excel is known for painting graffiti on the streets of the cities where they make their tours, hence there are many different logos of the band. Excel came out of the West Side Los Angeles crossover thrash scene as did many others in California like No Mercy, Beowülf, Suicidal Tendencies and Cryptic Slaughter, and sometimes with other performers on the thrash metal scene like Testament, Overkill and Megadeth. No Mercy is an American thrash metal band from Venice, California, the brainchild of guitarist Mike Clark who later played in Suicidal Tendencies. History The band started in 1982 and featured lead vocalist Keven Guercio, guitarist Mike Clark, bassist Ken Blakley later replaced by Ric "Rancid" Clayton (the artist who designed the Suicidal Tendencies logo as well as the shirts on S.T.'s first album) and drummer Sal Troy. Guercio recorded a few demos and the tracks on the ''Welcome to Venice'' (1985) compilation before leaving and moving to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and was replaced by Suicidal Tendencies vocalist Mike Muir.
