Lloyd Bentsen
Lloyd Millard Bentsen Jr. (February 11, 1921 – May 23, 2006) was an American politician who was a four-term United States Senator (1971–1993) from Texas and the Democratic Party nominee for vice president in 1988 on the Michael Dukakis ticket. He also served as the 69th United States Secretary of the Treasury under President Bill Clinton. Born in Mission, Texas, Bentsen graduated from the University of Texas School of Law before serving in the Air Force during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service in Europe. After the war, he won election to the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1948 to 1955. He defeated incumbent Senator Ralph Yarborough in the 1970 Democratic Senatorial primary and won the general election against George H. W. Bush. Ivar Bentsen
Ivar Bentsen (13 November 1876 – 21 May 1943) was a Danish architect and educator. He was a central figure in the Bedre-Byggeskik movement and succeeded Carl Petersen as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts's School of Architecture in 1923. He was awarded the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1943. Early life and education Bentsen was born in Vallekilde, Odsherred, Denmark to Andreas Bentsen (1839–1914) and Emilie S. F. Lavigne (1851–88). His father established a school for master builders at Vallekilde Folk High School. Bentsen completed a carpenter's apprenticeship in 1896 and matriculated from Copenhagen Technical School in 1899. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1900 to 1902 but received most of his training as an architect, draughtsman, and pupil at Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint's practice. Beint Kristian Bentsen (25 July 1917 – 2003) was a Norwegian banker and politician for the Christian Democratic Party. He is best known as county mayor of Rogaland in the 1970s, but was also a member of four different municipal councils, an unusual achievement. He was born in Nes i Vest-Agder. He started a career as a banker from 1940, and was hired as an office manager in Den norske Creditbank in Sandnes in 1959. He was promoted to director in 1966, and remained there until 1984. From 1984 to his retirement in 1986 he worked as a consultant for Sandnes municipality. He was a member of the municipal councils of both Nes i Vest-Agder, Madla and Høyland before moving to Sandnes. Christen Bentsen Schaaning (''Kristen Bentsen Skaaning'') (c. 1611-1679) was a Norwegian clergyman. He served as parish priest of Avaldsnes Church (''Avaldsnes kirke'') at Karmøy in Rogaland, Norway from 1635–1679. Biography He was probably born in Scania which was at that time ruled by Denmark-Norway. On the 1 July 1630, Christirnus Benedicti Scanus was taken up as a student. Before he came to Avaldsnes, he was priest on a ship. Christen was reportedly a priest who earned the respect of the people, and he was present at many royal celebrations. One time, he asked the King of Denmark-Norway for funds to repair his church which had gone into decline. To add to his income, he got involved with herring-trade, even though it was outlawed. Erling Herolf Bentzen, sometimes given as Bentsen (8 January 1897 – 12 December 1962) was a Norwegian newspaper editor and politician for the Labour and Communist parties. He was born in Kristiania, but moved to Sarpsborg. He joined Norges Socialdemokratiske Ungdomsforbund, by extension the Labour Party, in 1911, and sat as a county board member. He found work at Oslo Gassverk in 1915, and became a secretary of his local trade union. In 1923 he broke away from the Labour Party, joining the new Communist Party. He was a delegate to the 7th Enlarged Plenum of the Executive Committee of the Communist International in 1926.
