Benton is a town in Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 2,836 at the 2010 census. The town is named after an early resident. The Town of Benton is located in the northeast part of the county. Benton is on the west side of Seneca Lake, north of Penn Yan. History Kashanquash, a village of the Seneca tribe, was located in the northeast part of Benton as late as 1779. The region became part of the Phelps and Gorham Purchase. The town was formed in 1803 from the Town of Jerusalem before the formation of Yates County. Originally called the "Town of Vernon," the name was changed to "Snell" to avoid confusion with another "Vernon." Finally, the name was changed to "Benton," after Levi Benton, thought to be the first settler in the town. In 1818, the town was reduced in size by the founding of the Town of Milo. Lake Benton is a city in Lincoln County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 683 at the 2010 census. Lake Benton is also the name of the approximately seven-mile-long (11 km) lake adjacent to the city of Lake Benton. The town is on the Buffalo Ridge, and is the site for the radio tower of KKCK-FM in Marshall. The area is the site of Exelon Wind's Norgaard Wind Project. Benton Harbor is a city in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is 46 miles southwest of Kalamazoo and 71 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. Benton, also known as Spring Hill, is a house in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Middleburg. The house was built by William Benton, a brickmaker and builder, around 1831. Benton had made a journey to Wales to collect an inheritance shortly after 1822 and there saw a house that he admired and wished to replicate on his own lands. He called the house "Spring Hill." Description The two-story house is a Federal style structure with five bays and a center hall. Wings of three bays flank the main block. The first floor windows have been altered from six-over-six sash windows to French windows with sills close to the floor. The main entrance features double doors with sidelights and a fanlight above, which are also twentieth century alterations. The present entry replaced a small portico. Benton is a town in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 504 at the 2010 census, up from 469 at the 2000 census. The village of Benton is located within the town. The unincorporated communities of Jenkinsville and Strawbridge are also located in the town. Geography The town occupies the southwest corner of Lafayette County. Its southern border is the Illinois state line, and its western border is the Grant County line. The village of Benton is just east of the center of town. The city of Cuba City, primarily in Grant County, borders the town along the northern part of its western border, and the village of Hazel Green borders the town to the southwest. Benton is a village in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 973 at the 2010 census. The village is located within the Town of Benton. History Benton was named for Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. senator from Missouri. Up until that point, the community was known as Swindler's Ridge. The pioneer priest Father Samuel Mazzuchelli founded the village's Catholic parish, Saint Patrick's Church. Father Mazzuchelli is buried in Saint Patrick's cemetery.
