Benny Kalama
Benjamin Kapena Kalama (1916 – 1999) was an American singer with a honey-voiced falsetto. He is credited with discovering and nurturing Alfred Apaka, and was part of several groups. Until the day Apaka died, Kalama was coaching and arranging music for him. Biography Kalama was born on June 29, 1916. He was born on the Big Island of Hawai'i. At Kalakaua Intermediate School in 1931, Benny began playing trombone in the band. Upon graduation from McKinley High School where he played in the band, Kalama hooked up with Leonard "Red" Hawk and the Waikikians. Kalama's ability to read music, rather than play by ear, got him hired by the more successful bands. It was Hawk who wrote the lyrics and music to the ubiquitous song ''May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii''. In 1938, Kalama played steel guitar substituting for Sam Kaʻapuni with the Malcolm Beelby Orchestra. Halekulani Hotel
Halekulani is a historic oceanfront luxury hotel located on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, established in 1917. The hotel contains 453 rooms in five buildings on of property. Halekulani is a Hawaiian word meaning "House Befitting Heaven". It has three restaurants on the property – House Without a Key, Orchids, and La Mer. It is also the home of SpaHalekulani and the Lewers Lounge. The hotel is a member of both The Leading Hotels of the World and Imperial Hotel, Ltd., marketing and trade associations geared toward luxury hotels. Chapel Music, formerly Chapel Records is a record label, currently in Nampa, Idaho (relocated from California) that releases religious music. The label was founded in the late 1940s and still releases several Compact Disc#Audio CD, CDs each year. It is the long-standing official recorded music publisher of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Among the artists who have recorded for Chapel are The King's Heralds, Del Delker, Heritage Singers, The Heritage Singers, Wintley Phipps, and Roy Drusky. History Sabbath Music was a record label founded in 1948 as part of the World-Wide Bible Pictures department of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists.
