Benny Crespo's Gang
Benny Crespo's Gang is an Icelandic alternative rock band. They released their eponymous debut album in 2007. The group formed in 2003. Biography The members of the group are from a village in southern Iceland, Selfoss. The band performed for four years before releasing their first album. Their first album was released in 2007 and was well received by the Icelandic music scene. The album was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards in 2008. Along with good reviews in Iceland, they have been getting recognition in the foreign media, such as ''NME'' and '' Clash''. In 2008, the band joined Sign and Dr. Spock for a tour called Rás 2 Rokkar Hringinn. They toured around the country with the support of the national public-service broadcasting radio, RÚV. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir (born 10 September 1982), better known by her stage name, Lay Low, is an Icelandic musician and singer. Biography Lovísa was born to a Sri Lankan father and an Icelandic mother. She moved to Iceland at a young age where she has lived since. As a child she began taking piano lessons but started playing electric bass and guitar in her teens, and has since then played with numerous local bands. She joined the band Benny Crespo's Gang playing keyboards/synthesizers and guitar. It was then when she first started to use her voice. Lay Low, the alter ego of Lovísa, started to evolve early in 2006. She was spotted by a local label, Cod Music, which contacted her and showed an interest in a raw demo song she had published on MySpace. Her music combines elements of blues, folk and country. Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) (pronounced or ) ( en, 'The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service') is Iceland's national public-service broadcasting organization.
