Bennett Nāmākēhā
Bennett Nāmākēhā-o-kalani (c. 1799–1860) was a Hawaiian high chief, uncle of Queen Emma of Hawaii, and first husband of Queen Kapiolani. His first name is often given as ''Benjamin'', ''Beneli'', or ''Beniki''. Life He and his brother George Naea were sons of High Chief Kamaunu and High Chiefess Kukaeleiki, the daughter of Kalauawa from the royal line of Kauaian chiefs. Kukaeleiki was also cousin of Queen Keōpūolani. Nāmākēhā was also said to have been descended from Kalanawaa of Oahu and High Chiefess Kuaenaokalani of Maui who held the exalted kapu rank of ''Kekapupoʻohoʻolewaikalā'' (a head so sacred that it could not be exposed to the sun except at dawn). His name was the same as the high chief who rebelled against Kamehameha I during the end of his military career in 1796. His brother Naʻea was the father of Queen Emma. Kinoiki Kekaulike I was a Princess of the island of Kauaʻi during the transition from ancient Hawaii to the Kingdom of Hawaii. Biography She was born in the early 19th century. Her father was King Kaumualiʻi (1778–1824), descended from the royal family of Kauaʻi through his mother, Queen Kamakahelei and the royal family of Maui through his father Kaeokulani. Her mother was Kaʻapuwai Kapuaʻamohu, her father's stepdaughter and niece, daughter of Queen Kawalu, another wife of Kaumualiʻi being his half-sister, by her first husband, Chief Palikua of Koloa. Her mother was also granddaughter of Kamakahelei and Kaneoneo, the exiled king of Oʻahu who had been overthrown by the chiefs of Oʻahu and replaced by ʻEwa chief Kahahana. ʻEwa
ʻEwa was one of the original districts known as ''moku'', of the island of Oʻahu in Ancient Hawaii history. The word ''ʻewa'' means "crooked" or "ill-fitting" in Hawaiian. The name comes from the myth that the gods Kāne and Kanaloa threw a stone to determine the boundaries, but it was lost and later found at Pili o Kahe. Robert Crichton Wyllie
Robert Crichton Wyllie (October 13, 1798 – October 19, 1865) was a Scottish physician and businessman. He served for twenty years as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Kingdom of Hawaii. Early life Wyllie was born October 13, 1798, in an area called Hazelbank in Dunlop parish of East Ayrshire, Scotland. His father was Alexander Wyllie. His mother, Janet Crichton, traced her descent from James Crichton. He attended the University of Glasgow, earning a medical diploma by the time he was 20. He left as a ship surgeon, intending to practice in Russia. He got as far as Valparaíso in Chile in 1818, then set up in practice in nearby Coquimbo. After a few years he gave up medical practice and became a partner in a successful trading business. He took a small yacht, ''Daule'', to Kolkata, India (then called Calcutta), from 1824 to 1826, stopping in the Hawaiian islands en route. Nuʻuanu Pali
Nuuanu Pali is a section of the windward cliff (''pali'' in Hawaiian) of the Koolau mountain located at the head of Nuuanu Valley on the island of Oahu. It has a panoramic view of the windward (northeast) coast of Oahu. The Pali Highway ( Hawaii State Highway 61) connecting Kailua/ Kāneohe with downtown Honolulu runs through the Nuuanu Pali Tunnels bored into the cliffside. The area is also the location of the Nuuanu Freshwater Fish Refuge and the Nuuanu Reservoir in the jurisdiction of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources. The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the tunnels where there is a panoramic view of Oahu's windward side with views of Kāneohe, Kāneohe Bay, and Kailua. Royal Mausoleum (Mauna ʻAla)
Mauna Ala (Fragrant Hills) in the Hawaiian language, is the Royal Mausoleum of Hawaii (also called Royal Mausoleum State Monument) and the final resting place of Hawaii's two prominent royal families: the Kamehameha Dynasty and the Kalākaua Dynasty. Background In the early 19th century, the area near an ancient burial site was known as Pohukaina. It is believed to be the name of a chief (sometimes spelled Pahukaina) who according to legend chose a cave in Kanehoalani in the Koʻolau Range for his resting place. The land belonged to Kekauluohi, who later ruled as Kuhina Nui, as part of her birthright. ʻIolani Palace
The Iolani Palace ( haw, Hale Aliʻi ʻIolani) was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii beginning with Kamehameha III under the Kamehameha Dynasty (1845) and ending with Queen Liliʻuokalani (1893) under the Kalākaua Dynasty, founded by her brother, King David Kalākaua.
