Benjamin Wyon
Benjamin Wyon (9 January 1802 – 21 November 1858) was a British engraver of seals, and medallist. Life Born in John Street, Blackfriars, London, on 9 January 1802, he was the second son of Thomas Wyon the elder. He received instruction from his elder brother, Thomas Wyon the younger, and in 1821 gained the gold medal of the Society of Arts for a medal die of figures. He also gained the silver medal of the Royal Academy, for a die with the head of Apollo. On 10 January 1831 Wyon was appointed Chief Engraver of the Seals and made the Great Seal of William IV. He died in London on 21 November 1858 and is buried on the west side of Highgate Cemetery. Works Wyon produced medals, his signatures being "B. Wyon" and "Benj. Wyon". George Augustus Selwyn
George Augustus Selwyn (5 April 1809 – 11 April 1878) was the first Anglican Bishop of New Zealand. He was Bishop of New Zealand (which included Melanesia) from 1841 to 1869. His diocese was then subdivided and Selwyn was Metropolitan (later called Primate) of New Zealand from 1858 to 1868. Returning to Britain, Selwyn served as Bishop of Lichfield from 1868 to 1878. After his death, Selwyn College, Cambridge and Selwyn College, Otago were founded to honour his life and contribution to scholarship and the church. The colleges and other educational facilities uphold the legacy of the bishop. Allan Wyon
Allan Wyon (1843–1907) was an English medallist and seal-engraver. Life He was the son of Benjamin Wyon, and the younger brother of Joseph Shepherd Wyon and Alfred Benjamin Wyon. He went into the family arts, and for a time supported his brother Joseph in medal-work. From 1884 till his death he carried on in London the business of the Wyon firm of medallists and engravers founded by his grandfather, Thomas Wyon the elder. From 1884 to 1901 Wyon held the post of engraver of the royal seals, a post that had been successively held by his father and his two elder brothers. He was a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (elected 1889) and of the Numismatic Society of London (elected 1885), and was at one time treasurer and vice-president of the British Archæological Association. Joseph Shepherd Wyon
Joseph Shepherd Wyon (28 July 1836 – 12 August 1873) was a British medallist and seal-engraver. Life Born in London on 28 July 1836, he was the eldest son of Benjamin Wyon. He was educated by his father, and studied in the Royal Academy Schools, where he gained two silver medals. On 2 December 1858 Wyon was appointed Chief Engraver of the Seals, a post previously held by his father, Benjamin Wyon, and grandfather, Thomas Wyon the elder. He died at Winchester on 12 August 1873. Works Wyon's first important work was a medal of James Watt. On Robert Stephenson's recommendation, it was adopted as the prize medal of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Highgate Cemetery is a place of burial in north London, England. There are approximately 170,000 people buried in around 53,000 graves across the West and East Cemeteries.
