Benjamin Cleary
Benjamin Cleary is an Irish writer, director and producer from Dublin. He is best known for his short-film ''Stutterer (film), Stutterer'' that earned him an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 88th Academy Awards with producers Shan Christopher Ogilvie and Serena Armitage. Career Benjamin graduated from University College Dublin with BBLSDegree (Bachelor of Business & Legal Studies) in 2006. He then moved to England, where he completed his Screenwriting MA from London Film School. In 2015 he wrote, directed and edited his first short film ''Stutterer''. It stars Matthew Needham and Chloe Pirrie. The film has been accepted into 75 plus festivals at time of writing and has won over 20 awards including the London Critic's Circle award, an Irish Film and Television Award, the Audience Award and the Best International Short Film Award at the Kerry Film Festival. ''Stutterer'' is a short drama film written and directed by Benjamin Cleary and produced by Serena Armitage and Shan Christopher Ogilvie. Plot Greenwood, a lonely typographer, makes a phone call to discuss a bill issue, but his stutter keeps him from getting his words out and he is hung up on. Later, in a conversation with his online girlfriend Ellie on Facebook, Ellie says she has a surprise for Greenwood and will tell him the next day. In public, Greenwood makes "snap judgement" observations about strangers he sees, clearly speaking the thoughts inside his head. While walking to his father's house, he practices in his head a quote he wants to speak to his father. The Kerry Film Festival is an annual film festival that takes place in County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, during October / November. The Kerry Film Festival is funded by Kerry County Council, Fáilte Irelandthe Arts Councilas well as having corporate sponsorship. The Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film is an award presented at the annual Academy Awards ceremony. The award has existed, under various names, since 1957. From 1936 until 1956 there were two separate awards, "Best Short Subject, One-reel" and "Best Short Subject, Two-reel", referring to the running time of the short: a standard Reel#Motion picture terminology, reel of film is 1000 feet, or about 11 minutes of run time. A third category "Best Short Subject, color" was used only for 1936 and 1937. From the initiation of short subject awards for 1932 until 1935 the terms were "Best Short Subject, comedy" and "Best Short Subject, novelty".
