Benjamin Bosse High School
Benjamin Bosse High School, referred to as Evansville Bosse High School by the IHSAA, is a public high school of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation in Evansville, Indiana, United States. Bosse is the third smallest high school by enrollment of Vanderburgh County's nine high schools. The school is a contributing property to the Lincolnshire Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. History The school was initially financed by Benjamin Bosse, who was the mayor of Evansville from 1914 to 1922. Construction began on the school in 1922 and opened for its first pupils in 1924, serving what was then the east side of Evansville. Bosse's boys basketball team won the state championship in 1944 the first area team to do so. The school won again in 1945 and 1962. Bosse's band marched in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida on New Year's Eve in 1970-1971 and also played in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. Evansville is a city in, and the county seat of, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States. Charles Martin "Marty" Amsler (born October 26, 1942) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers. He played college football at the University of Evansville. Early years Amsler went to Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana and graduated in 1960. He graduated from University of Evansville in 1967. In 1964, he was named to the All-Conference team of the Indiana Collegiate Conference at defensive end. He was inducted into the University of Evansville Hall of Fame and the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1979 and 2001 respectively. The ''Evansville Courier & Press'' is a daily newspaper based in Evansville, Indiana. It serves about 30,000 daily and 50,000 Sunday readers. History The ''Evansville Courier'' was founded in 1845 by William Newton, a young attorney. Its first issue was printed two years before the city had a charter. The ''Evansville Press'' was founded in 1906 by Edward W. Scripps as an afternoon daily. Both papers were separate and fierce competitors until 1937, when the ''Evansville Press'' was flooded and the ''Evansville Courier'' agreed to print their competitor's paper. In 1938, the two papers formed a joint operating agreement to handle business affairs. Evansville Purple Aces Men's Basketball
The Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball team represents the Purple Aces of the University of Evansville, located in Evansville, Indiana, in NCAA Division I basketball competition. They play their home games at the Ford Center. Evansville's athletics teams were originally known as the Pioneers in the early part of the 1900s. In the 1920s, the name Aces arose after a local sports writer wrote in a game story of the men's basketball team, "They played like Aces." Arad McCutchan
Arad A. McCutchan (July 4, 1912 – June 16, 1993) was a collegiate basketball coach. The Evansville, Indiana, native coached his hometown University of Evansville from 1946 to 1977, guiding the Purple Aces to a 514–314 record. McCutchan spent seven years coaching Benjamin Bosse High School (1936–1943) before serving in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1946 he took over the head coaching position at University of Evansville. In the following years he guided them to five NCAA College Division Basketball Championships (1959, 1960, 1964, 1965, 1971) as well as three undefeated seasons in their conference (1964, 1965, 1971). McCutchan was named NCAA College Division Coach of the Year two times (1964, 1965).
