Benjamin Banneker School
Benjamin Banneker School is a historic one-room school building located at Parkville, Platte County, Missouri. It was built in 1885, and is a one-story, red brick building with gable roof. It measures approximately 34 feet by 18 feet and sits on a rubble limestone foundation with basement. It served as the primary school for African-American students until about 1902, when a new school was constructed. It has been converted to a private residence. Parkville is a city in Platte County, Missouri, United States and is a part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The population was 7,177 at the 2020 census (2021 est, 7,810). One-room School
One-room schools, or schoolhouses, were commonplace throughout rural portions of various countries, including Prussia, Norway, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain. Platte County is a county located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population was 106,718. Its county seat is Platte City. The county was organized December 31, 1838, from the Platte Purchase, named for the Platte River.
