Benito Martínez
Benito Martínez Abrogán (died October 11, 2006) was a Haitian Cuban who claimed to be the world's oldest living person. He claimed to have been born on June 19, 1880, near Cavaellon, Haiti; however, he had no documents to verify this and was thus never an officially eligible candidate for this record. The Cuban government sent officials to Haiti to investigate, but found nothing to either prove or disprove the claim. Cuban government medical experts attested that he was at least 119 years old at the time of his death, but the reasons for this determination were never presented. Early life Martínez has papers proving he came to Cuba via steamship in the 1920s from Haiti, but his age at the time was not recorded. Initially he found employment on the family ranch of future Cuban president Fidel Castro. Benito James Martinez (born June 28, 1971) is an American actor, best known for his role as LAPD Captain David Aceveda in the FX police drama ''The Shield'', Luis Torres in ''Sons of Anarchy'' (2011-2012), Todd Denver in ''How to Get Away with Murder'' (2016-2018), Sheriff Diaz in ''13 Reasons Why'' (2019-2020), and for his film role in the movie ''My Family'' (1995) and '' Kill Your Darlings'' (2006). Early life Martinez was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 28, 1971, the son of Margarita Martinez-Cannon. He attended Hollywood High School Performing Arts Center, along with Anthony Anderson. Corporal Benito Martinez (April 21, 1932 – September 6, 1952) was a United States Army soldier who posthumously received the Medal of Honor — the United States' highest military decoration — for his actions on the near Satae-ri in Korea during the Korean War. Martinez was mortally wounded while solely defending his outpost. His actions enabled his company to take back the terrain which they had lost. Early years Martinez was a Mexican-American born to Mr. and Mrs. Francisco Martinez in Fort Hancock, Texas. There, he received his primary and secondary education. He joined the United States Army in 1950 at the recruiting station in his hometown.
