Benign Peak
Benign Peak is a elevation mountain summit located in the western Chugach Mountains, in Anchorage Municipality in the U.S. state of Alaska. The mountain is situated in Chugach State Park, east of Anchorage, and south of Eklutna Lake. The nearest higher peak is Mount Rumble, to the southwest, and The Mitre is set east-southeast, on the opposite side of the Eklutna Glacier. Although modest in elevation, relief is significant since the eastern aspect of the mountain rises over 5,000 feet above this glacier in approximately one mile. This peak belongs to a group of peaks in the Eklutna River drainage which start with the letter "B", such as Bold Peak, Bashful Peak, Baleful Peak, and Mt. Beelzebub. Benign Peak was so named in 1965 by the Mountaineering Club of Alaska because "nearby Bellicose Peak was a much harder climb, while this one's nature was quite benign since the rock was not too rotten and the weather wasn't too bad." Chugach Mountains
The Chugach Mountains of southern Alaska are the northernmost of the several mountain ranges that make up the Pacific Coast Ranges of the western edge of North America. The range is about long and wide, and extends from the Knik and Turnagain Arms of the Cook Inlet on the west to Bering Glacier, Tana Glacier, and the Tana River on the east. It is bounded on the north by the Matanuska, Copper, and Chitina rivers. Bellicose Peak is a mountain summit in Alaska, United States. Description Bellicose Peak is located east of Anchorage in the western Chugach Mountains. It ranks as the third-highest peak within Chugach State Park. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains to Knik Arm via Peters Creek and the Eklutna River. Although modest in elevation, topographic relief is significant as the summit rises approximately 4,640 feet (1,414 m) above Peters Creek in and 3,640 feet (1,110 m) above the Eklutna Glacier in less than one mile. Cook Inlet ( tfn, Tikahtnu; Sugpiaq: ''Cungaaciq'') stretches from the Gulf of Alaska to Anchorage in south-central Alaska.
