Benazir Bhutto Road
Murree Road (), alternatively known as Benazir Bhutto Road, is a major road that runs from Islamabad and Rawalpindi to Murree in Pakistan. It passes through Rawalpindi's downtown area, and has been a hotspot for various political and social events. Names It was originally named Raza Shah Pehlavi Road in the 1960s, after Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, who was the first head of state to visit Pakistan. However, it has always been known as Murree Road since it eventually led to the nearby hill station of Murree. On 20 May 2008, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani announced that the federal government had decided to rename the road after Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated at the nearby Liaqat National Bagh on 27 December 2007. However, the city officials claimed that the change of name had not been notified, and was, therefore, not official. Benazir Bhutto
Benazir Bhutto ( ur, بینظیر بُھٹو; sd, بينظير ڀُٽو; Urdu ; 21 June 1953 – 27 December 2007) was a Pakistani politician who served as the 11th and 13th prime minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. She was the first woman elected to head a democratic government in a Muslim-majority country. Ideologically a liberal and a secularist, she chaired or co-chaired the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from the early 1980s until her assassination in 2007. Of mixed Sindhi and Kurdish parentage, Bhutto was born in Karachi to a politically important, wealthy aristocratic family. Lai Expressway is the 17 km long under construction alternative road to connect Islamabad's IJP Road with GT Road. The initial cost of the project is estimated at PKR.70 billion. It will be built with the participation of government and private institutions. Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus is a bus rapid transit system operating in the Islamabad–Rawalpindi metropolitan area of Pakistan. It consists of four routes, namely the Red, Orange, Blue, and Green Lines. The Red and Orange Lines have dedicated lanes with proper stations built along them, while the Blue and Green Lines currently run along the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway respectively, with regular traffic. The Metrobus network's Red Line was the first to be opened on june 4, 2015, and stretches 22.5 kilometers between Pak Secretariat, in Islamabad, and Saddar in Rawalpindi. Liaquat National Bagh
Liaqat National Bagh (Park), usually just referred to as ''Liaqat Bagh'' (Urdu: لیاقت باغ), is a famous park on Murree Road in the city of Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. It is close to Arya Mohalla and Government Gordon College, which are two well known residential and commercial areas of Rawalpindi. Two Prime Ministers of Pakistan, Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan and Benazir Bhutto, have been assassinated in this park. On 1 March 2016, a mass gathering of people for the funeral prayer of Mumtaz Qadri, who assassinated Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, was also seen here after Qadri's execution. This funeral prayer was attended by an estimated 100,000 people, the majority of whom were clerics and youth. Lai Nullah (Urdu: نالہ لئی), commonly called Nullah Lai, is a rain water fed natural stream flowing through the city of Rawalpindi. Every monsoon season the stream floods after being fed by its catchment basin in the Margalla Hills bordering Islamabad, Pakistan. The Lai Nullah Basin has a catchment area of 234.8 km2, extending to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. A record level of 620 mm of rainfall fell in Islamabad, Pakistan one in just 10 hours brought in its wake huge urban storm flooding in the famous Lai Nullah flowing through the twin cities on 23 July 2001., Islamabad and Rawalpindi are situated along the Margallah hills.
