Ben Swagerman
Ben Swagerman (born 7 July 1959) is a Dutch politician and former prosecutor. Swagerman was a member of the Senate for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy between June 2011 and June 2015 and served once more from November 2015 to July 2016. He has been chair of the BOA-platform since 1 January 2020. Career Swagerman was born on 7 July 1959 in Zeist. He went to the Atheneum in his hometown between 1971 and 1977. Swagerman subsequently studied Dutch law at Utrecht University and graduated in 1983. Swagerman served three years as a lawyer and subsequently studied to become a prosecutor. Starting his prosecutor career as a substitute in The Hague in 1992, he was later employed in the same position in Willemstad (Curaçao) and Amsterdam. After serving as deputy and interim head prosecutor in Amsterdam between December 1998 and June 2001 Swagerman became prosector-general of the Netherlands Antilles. Senate (Netherlands)
The Senate ( or simply ' , literally "First Chamber of the States General", or sometimes ' ) is the upper house of the States General, the legislature of the Netherlands. Its 75 members are elected on lists by the members of the twelve States-Provincial and four electoral colleges for the Senate every four years, within three months of the provincial elections. All provinces and colleges have different electoral weight depending on their population. Members of the Senate tend to be veteran or part-time politicians at the national level, often having other roles. They receive an allowance which is about a quarter of the salary of the members of the lower house. Unlike the politically more significant House of Representatives, it meets only once a week. Ivo Willem Opstelten (born 31 January 1944) is a retired Dutch politician and jurist. He is a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Opstelten applied at Leiden University in May 1963 majoring in Law and obtaining an Bachelor of Laws degree in June 1965 before graduating with a Master of Laws degree in July 1969. Forum for Democracy ( nl, Forum voor Democratie, FvD) is a right-wing populist Eurosceptic political party in the Netherlands that was founded as a think tank by Thierry Baudet and Henk Otten in 2016. The party first participated in elections in the 2017 general election, winning two seats in the House of Representatives. In the 2019 provincial elections, it won the most seats out of any party, although 61 out of 86 representatives have since defected.
