Ben Oumar Sy
"Ben" Oumar Sy (8 January 192625 August 2001) was a Malian footballer and football manager. He was the first ever manager for Stade Malien and the Mali national team. Career Sy began playing football with Jeanne d'Arc in French Sudan in the 1940s, and with them won the French West African Cup twice in 1953 and 1956 before retiring shortly after. He received the nickname "Ben" in reference to the then famed Moroccan-French footballer Larbi Benbarek. In 1960, his old club ''Jeanne d'Arc'' and ''l’Espérance de Médine'' merged creating Stade Malien, and Sy was appointed their first ever manager. In 1961, he helped Stade Malien win the first ever Malian Cup in 1961. In 1965, he took the team to the final of the first ever CAF Champions League in 1965, where they lost to Oryx Douala. Oryx Douala
Oryx Club de Douala is a football club from Douala, Cameroon, that achieved most of its success in the 1960s. It won the inaugural African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1964 beating Stade Malien on a score of 2–1 in the final, and so becoming the first club outfit from Cameroon to win the title. They have also won five league titles and the Cameroon Cup three times, most of which came in the 1960s. Oryx Douala were founded in April 1927 and play in black and yellow striped shirts. The club's 5 title wins make them the Cameroon Elite One league's fourth most successful club of all time. The club plays at 30,000 capacity Stade de la Réunification and currently they play in a lower league. Malian Première Division
Malian Première Division (French language, French: ''Première division malienne'') is the top division of Association football, football in Mali. Having been created in 1966, it is governed by the Malian Football Federation. The league has been professional since 2004. The official name is Ligue 1 Orange Mali for sponsorship reasons. The season usually runs from December to late August. The league currently consists of twenty clubs split into two pools and features a round-robin home-and-away schedule within each pool. The top two in each pool qualify for the Championship Play-Off (''Carré d'As''), which involves a round-robin between the four teams. The winners of the play-off are crowned champions and qualify for the CAF Champions League. The 1964–65 African Cup of Champions Clubs, known as Kwame Nkrumah Cup was the first edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CAF region (Africa), the African Cup of Champions Clubs.
